Wii U

SEGA reported its latest financial results today, which includes sales for Sonic Lost World. The game ended up selling 710,000 units on both Wii U and 3DS. That’s a worldwide figure – North America, Europe, and Japan.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, SEGA’s profit dipped by 8.2 percent to 30.7 million yen ($302 million). The company said that traditional game sales are slowing quickly whereas digital games for PC and mobile remain strong.

In a recent interview with business website Sankei Biz, Hirokazu Hamamura has come out saying that Nintendo should not abandon their support for the Wii U. Hamamura explains:

The Wii U is in a slump, but has not yet reached the stage of giving up.

[Nintendo] has no choice but continuing to release popular software.

Hamamura is quite a notable figure in the Japanese game industry. He was editor in chief for Famitsu magazine for a number of years as well as the president of Enterbrain among other things.

Another double today! Today we see the return of the Dragoon item from Kirby’s Air Ride. Sakurai explains:

Uniting three parts will complete the legendary Air Ride machine…the Dragoon! It’s back! But we didn’t just leave it the way it was, and added some nice touches to the design of the targeting screen. It is, of course, in stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS.

There was also a picture of the Dragoon itself:

Just the target screen felt lacking so here’s a pic of the Dragoon itself. I wanna get on it. I wanna get on and ride it.

Game Informer has put together a few graphs comparing Wii U and 3DS sales to Nintendo’s previous platforms. You can find them in the gallery above, and more information at the source link below.

Don’t want to give too much away here, since I know people tend to be sensitive about potential spoiler-like content. In any case, you can head past the break if you want to check out these two new Mario Kart 8 videos.

Rumors surfaced last week of Nintendo potentially showing new hardware at this year’s E3. However, the speculation was quickly shot down.

Satoru Iwata seems to have now responded indirectly to the reports himself. The Nintendo president said rumors of Nintendo announcing a new version of the Wii U at E3 are “groundless.” The company will instead a new title that shows a new way to use the GamePad.

We know that EDGE handed out a 9 / 10 score to Mario Kart 8. But what did the magazine actually say about Nintendo’s new racer?

CVG picked out a few quotes, starting with the following:

“Even 2011’s effervescent 3DS outing, Mario Kart 7, feels somewhat lifeless by comparison. The new HD visuals are gorgeous, but Nintendo has also built on 7’s neatly interlaced mechanics and introduced a nuanced handling model to create the greatest Mario Kart yet.”

EDGE had some criticism for Mario Kart 8’s Balloon Battle mode’s arenas, but the publication still said that the game “is as essential a purchase as Super Mario 3D World.”

Mario Kart 8’s Limited Edition Bundle is coming to North America after all, albeit with a catch: it’s exclusive to Nintendo World in New York.

The store’s Twitter account just tweeted:

This seems to be the same as Europe’s Mario Kart 8 bundle. You’ll get a copy of the game as well as a blue shell figure.
