Varia Games has launched a Kickstarter for ReVeN. Those interested in the project can back the game here.

ReVeN is described as “a 2D shooter/platformer EVOLVED that will take you back to the good old days of classics like Metroid and Megaman while adding gameplay twists using our EDM system to add RPG elements that can be found in Crysis and Deus Ex.” Quite a bit to take in on that statement alone, though the video above should give you a better idea as to what the team has in store.

Varia Games hopes to raise $18,000 for ReVeN by February 22. The Kickstarter just went live yesterday, but has already raised $1,800.

Famitsu recently caught up with a few members of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds team to gain insight into the project’s development. Director Hiromasa Shikata, lead programmer Shiro Mouri, and lead designer Koji Takahashi spoke about a number of topics, including Link’s wall-merging ability.

Here’s a roundup of what was shared, courtesy of Siliconera’s translations:

Shikata on how Link’s ability to become a painting and part of a wall came to be…

“The thought of having link become a drawing on a flat surface seemed interesting to me; an idea that came out of nowhere. However, I thought that simply having him be part of a flat surface would’ve made it no different than a side-scrolling game, so we thought it would be better to have him turn along the corners of the walls, after further consulting with the [other members of staff].”

Namco Bandai has gone by the name “Bandai Namco” in Japan since Bandai and Namco merged back in 2005. Overseas, though, the “Namco Bandai” name has been kept in tact.

That’s changed following a meeting of the board of directors held in Japan yesterday. The names of all 31 subsidiaries have been unified, and will be known as “Bandai Namco” going forward. In doing so, the company hopes to enhance the value and appeal” of the brand.

Kameo: Elements of Power wasn’t always planned as an Xbox 360 title. Rare was initially making the project for the GameCube alongside the likes of Donkey Kong Racing.

In the end, Microsoft ended up purchasing Rare, and Kameo was moved to the Xbox (ultimately the Xbox 360). But you may be interested to hear that the GameCube release, while “quite a different game” on the platform, “was quite far along.”

Former Rare staffer Phil Tossell said on Twitter:
