Final Fantasy VII has been updated on Switch, and the game is now at version 1.0.2. The update addresses just a couple of issues.

Below are the official patch notes:

Bravely Default II developers Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi spoke more about the RPG in a previous issue of Famitsu. The two hinted at possible online functionality, addressed the chances of another demo with save data transfer, and more.

Here’s the full roundup of tidbits:

Bravely Default II

If you haven’t been keeping up with the Bravely series, now might be the time for a refresher. The franchise started out on Nintendo 3DS with Bravely Default, which was followed up with a direct sequel, Bravely Second. Now Square-Enix is readying a new game in the franchise, Bravely Default II, for Switch this year.

In an issue of Famitsu, Tomoya Asano (leader of the Asano Team) and Masashi Takahashi (producer) commented on how they settled on the final name. We heard a bit about this previously, but now we have the full explanation.

As translated by Nintendo Everything’s Oni Dino, the two shared the following:

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Square Enix has shared an official announcement for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. The rhythm-action game, announced for Switch earlier in the week, has also received an English trailer.

Here’s the full roundup:

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Square Enix has issued a new batch of screenshots from Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which was announced for Switch earlier this week. We have the images below.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory launches for Switch worldwide in 2020. Read more about the game in our initial post here.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is in development and will be released on Switch, Square Enix has just announced. It will launch later this year.

Square Enix describes Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory as a rhythm action game. It will feature over 140 songs, including ones from Disney. Four modes will be available, including online battles.

Here’s the debut trailer:

On June 1, Square Enix applied for a new The World Ends with You trademark in Japan. It was officially made public today.

Normally we don’t feel that trademarks filings are noteworthy – particular when it comes to Nintendo, since the company regularly covers its basis for its older systems and games. However, this situation is a bit different.

For one thing, Square Enix doesn’t seem to constantly file trademarks for its older products like Nintendo. We’ve also seen that The World Ends with You is being featured in key art for the upcoming Anime Expo Lite 2020. The World Ends with You: Final Remix also came to Switch a couple of years ago, so perhaps Square Enix has more plans in store for the IP.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition

Last night, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is launching in Japan on August 27. Just as expected, fans in the west will be getting it around the same time – actually, on the same day. Square Enix has confirmed that we’ll be seeing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition in North America and Europe on August 27.

It currently appears that the game will have a digital-only release overseas. However, Japan will be receiving a physical version. Collectors can import a copy from Play-Asia here.

Here’s a rundown of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition from Square Enix:

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition was announced back in September 2018, but the game still has yet to release. Most recently, Square Enix announced a delay last December, pushing the title to this summer. We now have a new release date.

In Japan, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is slated for August 27. That should translate to August 25 or August 28 in the west.

E3 2020 is undoubtedly the biggest gaming event of the year, especially when it comes to new announcements. But after the expo was cancelled due to the coronavirus, publishers were left scrambling and have been forced to reshuffle their plans. We’ve started to see some companies regroup with online events such as Ubisoft, but Square Enix won’t be included in that.

The company has confirmed that it won’t be hosting an online event to unveil upcoming releases for this year’s fiscal releases. Square Enix explained that making assets in time has become difficult because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Square Enix previously said it was “exploring other options” to share news about its games. It has now decided to announce new titles on an individual basis.
