Original: Today’s Super Smash Bros. Direct will begin at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT. A live stream is posted above.

So here’s the deal. Since this is a game-dedicated Direct, we plan on covering the proceedings as a “live blog” (similar to The Wonderful 101’s Direct last year). All you need to know is that this post will be updated throughout the broadcast. If everything goes well enough, we may adapt a similar formula for all future Nintendo Direct presentations.

This live blog is where you’ll find information throughout the presentation. However, we may post break-out stories for new character reveals (if there are any… okay, there should be at least one), videos, screenshots, and whatever else comes in that we deem particularly newsworthy.

Oh, and we’re aware that there is speculation regarding additional characters for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS such as Shulk from Xenoblade and Palutena from Kid Icarus. It could be accurate, but we don’t feel there’s enough credibility there (at least not yet) to share the full report.

That’s all for now. Enjoy the Direct!

Looks like Disney Interactive is planning something new for Disney Infinity… and Marvel characters will be involved!

What’s the team behind Super Mario 3D World working on next? Why, a new Mario game of course!

Nintendo producer Yoshiaki Koizumi wouldn’t say if the new project is for Wii U or 3DS while speaking with EDGE. He did mention, however:

“That’s still a secret! I can tell you, though, that we’ve already started approaching our next challenge.”

“There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future.”

Along with today’s screenshot, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:

Pic of the day, and a very important announcement.

On 4/8, at 3 PM PST (8/4 11 PM UK time), we’ll be airing a Super Smash Bros. Direct!! There will be all kinds of info about the new Smash Bros. games on this simultaneous global stream that will be delivered “directly” to you, so don’t miss it!

It’s airing at a really late time for some of you, but it’ll probably be worth the wait.
You can watch the stream from the official site (www.smashbros.com).

Later today, Nintendo will be hosting a Direct for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. We can count on plenty of details to be unveiled such as new characters in all likelihood.

Some had also hoped that today would be the day that a release date would be announced. It’s time to readjust expectations though, as it’s been confirmed that no such information will be shared.

The Japanese Smash Bros. Twitter account noted several hours ago that “a concrete release date” won’t be confirmed. On the bright side though “we will be revealing a rough release window.”

The message states:

“[Notice] We are currently not at a stage where we can announce a concrete release date; however, in tomorrow’s broadcast, we will be revealing a rough release window.”

Bandai Namco recently put up a rather interesting job posting for “Smash Bros. 6”. Although it was taken down after being discovered by various outlets, it mentioned that the game will be released next year on Wii U and 3DS.

Here’s what you should know about the job listing:

– Project currently being worked on by 120 staffers
– Number expected to increase to 200
– Team needs programmers for various roles
– They’ll be put into different teams to handle characters, stages, 3D programming, motion, game mode, mini-games, menu, UI, and more
– Message on the recruitment page:

“Social games are currently a big hit, but the current state of job opportunities for making retail games is critically low. In the midst of this, this will likely be your only chance to be part of a development project for the Smash Bros. [series], which has surpassed a total of 10 million in worldwide sales. And Bandai Namco believes that now is the best time to recruit programmers for retail games.”

– Only 3 Smash Bros. games thus far
– Wii U/3DS games would count as the fourth
– The two games have generally been thought of as “Smash Bros. 4”
– “6” could be a typo
– Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS may have been delayed into 2015
– Another possibility is that Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS are the fourth and fifth in the series, and Smash Bros. 6 is an entirely different/updated version of the game being released next year
– Tatsuya Matsumura, a consultant who uploaded the ad, seems to still have all of his other recruitment ads live on the website
– Matsumura appears to have been in the business of a career consultant to connect developers and software companies with programmers and engineers since 2011
He currently specializes in getting people in touch with gaming and software developers, and has successfully helped the recruitment of over 2,000 people thus far
