King's Bounty 2 review

System: Switch
Release date: August 24, 2021
Developer: 1C Entertainment
Publisher: 1C Entertainment / Prime Matter

Over the past few years, the turn-based strategy genre has become awash with new entries in some of its most landmark franchises; in retrospect, it should have seemed inevitable that someday, eventually, King’s Bounty would return on modern hardware. But I doubt that even longtime fans of this dormant franchise had expected to witness such an ambitious reinvention of the series’ name. Sure, at its heart, King’s Bounty II is still a grid-centric, turn-based strategy game with a traditional medieval setting, but with this new release, 1C Entertainment and Prime Matter have attempted to integrate more immersive role-playing elements, a grander world, and a completely different pace than the last game in the series. And while some of these new ideas can be well-executed individually, I left King’s Bounty II feeling unimpressed by the package as a whole.

The third portion of the Harada’s Bar interview series with Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai continued today with topics such as his health and the 3DS game Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Regarding his health, Sakurai actually says he’s fine right now. He spoke about some problems with his shoulder that took quite some time to get better, but it looks like that has now cleared up.

Sakurai explained:

The Wonderful 101 Remastered DLC

New DLC has just arrived in The Wonderful 101: Remastered. The news was announced during today’s PlatinumGames SuperSummer Festival live stream, which wrapped up just a short while ago.

Once installed, the DLC lets players unlock a mode to change the main character to Prince Vorkken Ohgee. The Multi-Unite ability is also swapped out for “Enemy-Unite,” which brings along “Unify Monster” alien beasts.

mario golf super rush camelot

Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream recently conducted an interview with some of the lead staff at Camelot involved with the development of Mario Golf: Super Rush.

At one point of the discussion, Hiroyuki Takahashi (producer) and Shugo Takahashi (director) talked about their approach to course design for the Switch entry. In order to make the courses as large as they did in Mario Golf: Super Rush, Camelot received technical advice from the Zelda: Breath of the Wild team.

Metroid Dread

Nintendo and MercurySteam have rolled out a new written report for Metroid Dread. And if that wasn’t enough, a new trailer has come in as well.

Blasphemous Wounds of Eventide

Blasphemous still has a bit of life in it as the game is set to receive another update titled Wounds of Eventide, Team17 and The Game Kitchen have announced. It will unlock the game’s true ending. While we don’t have a concrete date yet for its release, expect to see it on December 9. It will be available entirely for free.

That’s not all for Blasphemous, as a sequel has been confirmed as well. Blasphemous II will launch in 2023. If you’re curious about the series’ future, you’ll probably want to play through the new Wounds of Eventide update.
