Pokemon GO has a favorable retention rate, even when compared to top mobile games
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 0 comments
SurveyMoney published a new report about Pokemon GO. The game’s retention rate is explored in-depth, with the company ultimately concluding that “it’s quite respectable; it’s competitive with those of other top-performing games.” That comes in contrast to some of the things we’ve been hearing about Pokemon GO’s decline.
It’s true that Pokemon GO’s player retention rate is dropping, but it stacks up favorably when compared to other top mobile titles. SurveyMonkey even proclaims that Niantic’s mobile release is “performing very much like a typical top mobile game.”
It’s illustrated further with the following comparison to Clash of Clans, which has fewer active users but a similar retention rate:
– Clash of Clans currently has ~3.85 million weekly active users (WAU). With a weekly retention rate of 75% (a weekly churn rate of 25%), Clash loses ~960 thousand players from week to week.
– Pokemon GO has 15.4 million weekly active users. With a weekly retention rate of 75%, it loses ~3.9 million users from week to week.
Since some of the initial hype surrounding Pokemon GO has died down and casual players are leaving, that leaves the app to more loyal users. SurveyMonkey says “it wouldn’t be surprising for the weekly retention rate to level off, mostly ending its current gradual decline.” Also, given Pokemon GO’s retention at the moment, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the game ended up as “one of the most widely-used smartphone games in the U.S. for a long time to come.”
You can find more analysis about Pokemon GO’s retention at the source below.
