IA Labs Loses Patent Portfolio to Nintendo after Nintendo Wins Patent Lawsuit
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 3 Comments
Way back in April 2010, IA Labs sued Nintendo for patent infringement. The lawsuit never progressed as in February 2012, Nintendo put on a strong defense and obtained judgment in its favor.
IA Labs attempted to follow up with an appeal. However, in June 2013, the appeals court confirmed Nintendo’s win and was required to pay the company’s additional costs incurred in defending the appeal.
IA Labs did not end up paying the amount as ordered. As a result, a sheriff’s sale was conducted to sell IA Labs’ remaining assets. Nintendo was able to, in the process, acquire IA Labs’ entire patent portfolio at that sale as partial repayment for litigation costs.
You can find Nintendo’s full announcement concerning today’s news below.

Disney Infinity executive producer wants Captain EO supported in the game

Disney Infinity executive producer John Vignocchi has tweeted about wanting to see Captain EO supported in the game.
Vignocchi wrote on Twitter yesterday:
Before I die, we will incorporate Captain E/O into @DisneyInfinity!
— John Vignocchi (@JohnVignocchi) January 8, 2014
Vignocchi is, of course, referring to the 1980s film featuring Michael Jackson. Disney theme parks showcased the science fiction movie through the 1990s, and the attraction returned in 2010 following Jackson’s passing.

Next Level says it’s “doing only Nintendo products now”
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Podcast Stories | 6 Comments
Over the past few years, Nintendo fans have seen Next Level Games’ work in a number of prominent titles. The studio has produced Super Mario Strikers, Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!, and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon within the last decade.
Next Level hasn’t always worked exclusively on Nintendo products, however. The team has previously churned out titles like Spider-Man: Friend or Foe and Ghost Recon on Wii.
But things have changed. Next Level doesn’t intend to work on games for companies besides Nintendo – at least for the foreseeable future – with co-founder Jason Carr telling Gamasutra: “We are doing only Nintendo products now.”
Carr also spoke with the site about Next Level’s relationship with Nintendo:
