Dragon Quest VII 3DS fan translation underway
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 3 Comments
When publishers don’t step up to the plate and bring their Japanese games to overseas territories, that’s usually when fans start taking action. We’ve seen plenty of fan translations over the years, and one enthusiast is now focusing his efforts on a 3DS RPG that has yet to be localized: Dragon Quest VII.
Reddit user “apassingremark” shared a few screenshots from his work on translating certain content from Dragon Quest VII yesterday. While he’d like to complete a full translation, his efforts will likely be limited to elements such as item names, spell names and monster names. That’s because “the game’s script is locked away”, and he’s unsure how to access it.
apassingremark has no estimate as to when his translation would be available. He’s also unsure how it would be distributed to the public at large. Still, this is an admirable effort, and hopefully Dragon Quest VII fans in the west will eventually be able to play through the RPG.

Aonuma on the pain behind Link’s transformations in Majora’s Mask, Fierce Deity Mask soul
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 19 Comments
Another couple of excerpts from Game Informer‘s interview with Eiji Aonuma have been transcribed. The latest Q&A covers the pain behind Link’s transformations in Majora’s Mask, and the soul inside the Fierce Deity Mask.
Check out the full responses below:
GI: “Why does it hurt so much for Link to wear the transformation masks?
Aonuma: We’re talking about masks that were created to contain the memories of people who have died. Often there are things they really wanted to do before they left this world, so becoming them is actually really painful because it’s like hosting a really powerful spirit that’s coming into you.”
GI: “Whose soul is inside the Fierce Deity Mask?
Aonuma: The best I can give you is just a suggestion. The best way to think about it is that the memories of all the people of Termina are inside of the Fierce Deity Mask.”
