General Nintendo

The Washington Post recently spoke with four key developers behind the Mario franchise. Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Yoshiaki Koizumi, and Kenta Motokura spoke about the different entries and series in general.

Here’s a roundup for some of their comments:

Today’s lengthy Indie Live Expo II stream concluded with confirmation of a third broadcast. Indie Live Expo III will be held sometime in 2021, Ryu’s Office announced.

Indie Live first premiered on June 6. Several new Switch games were revealed during both broadcasts, and that should continue for next year’s show.

We’ll let you know when an air date has been announced for Indie Live Expo III.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars - Super Mario Galaxy

According to well-known Nintendo developer Yoshiaki Koizumi, story is added to the Mario titles “at the very end of the game development process”. As a franchise that is much more known for its gameplay, that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Koizumi told The Washington Post in a recent interview:

Super Mario Odyssey

Mario fans have likely noticed that the character’s abilities and movements are never static. Just like gameplay tends to change with each new entry, the same can be said of what Mario is actually capable of doing.

As part of an interview with The Washington Post, Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey director Kenta Motokura spoke about Mario’s movements. Motokura noted specifically that with the more recent games, Nintendo has looked to give players “a little more control in mid air” and make some enemies “easier to be jumped on”.

He said:

Animal Crossing amiibo cards

Good news for those looking for the Animal Crossing amiibo cards – they’ve been restocked on Best Buy. Nintendo previously said they would be returning in November.

You can order the amiibo cards from Best Buy here. Series 1-4 are all currently available.

When Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was revealed, it was also announced that there would be a restock for the Zelda: Breath of the Wild Champions amiibo. Amazon now has the full set up here. Urbosa, Mipha, Daruk, and Revali are available once again.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity arrives on November 20. Players can use amiibo to unlock in-game weapons and other items.

Nintendo and Amazon have teamed up in a bit of an interesting way. Throughout November, you may find that a package you’ve ordered from the retailer has arrived in a box themed after Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo says that “the Super Mario Bros. branded Amazon boxes are in limited quantity and will be used randomly, while supplies last.” Furthermore, buying a Nintendo product won’t increase the chance of receiving the branded box.

Outside of the box, there’s another small aspect of the partnership. Amazon has opened a page here where My Nintendo members can earn 100 Platinum Points. The Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary page lets you look at various Mario products, view a history of the franchise, and find hidden trivia.
