It’s been announced that the Vans x Nintendo collection will launch this Friday in the United States. At other international retailers, the footwear will be available throughout the month.
Here’s what you can look forward to in terms of shoes:
The Vans x Nintendo Classic footwear assortment kicks off with four variations of the Authentic silhouette. Travel to the Mushroom Kingdom for the first colorway, the Super Mario Bros. Tie-Dye, which showcases an all-over character print of Mario alongside several “power-ups” and the villainous Goomba over an 8-bit tie-dye pattern. A second color-up features the original damsel in distress, Princess Peach, awaiting rescue from her brave hero. Duck Hunt comes to life atop a digi-camo backdrop featuring the hunting dog and flying duck, and the final execution of the Authentic is an ode to Donkey Kong and incorporates imagery from its first level to present the title character in a unique floral arrangement. Vans’ iconic lace-free silhouette, the Classic Slip-On, appears in the sneaker lineup with graphics and quotes from The Legend of Zelda. A Sidestriped trio of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim for women pay homage to the NES with prints and colors inspired by the console. Lace-up styles are trimmed with special details, including Nintendo game logos on the tongue label and NES controller lace caplets. For the greatest feature, kick up your heels to reveal Vans iconic waffle sole printed with ‘Game Over!’
Sneaker styles for youth and toddler fits will also be distributed at retailers. These include “patterns designed just for kids with characters from Mario Kart and Super Mario across the Sk8-Hi Zip, Classic Slip-on and Authentic.”
Interestingly, the Vans x Nintendo collaboration also extends into apparel and accessory items. Consumers can pick up tees, backpacks, bags, socks and hats “in prints that tie back to the Classic footwear.”

Retrotainment Games opened a Kickstarter last month in an attempt to fund its new game Haunted Halloween ’86: The Curse of Possum Hollow, which features a mix of platforming and beat ’em up gameplay. It was initially planned as only NES title, but it’s now confirmed for a current Nintendo platform as well.
The $5,000 Kickstarter goal was smashed out of the park, guaranteeing the NES version. Additionally though, a $20,000 Wii U stretch goal was reached.

Pokemon fans in Hong Kong protest over Pikachu name change
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 61 Comments
Pokemon fans in Hong Kong aren’t pleased with how Nintendo is approaching Pikachu’s name in Sun/Moon. There’s a bit of a change happening with the two games, which will feature traditional and simplified Chinese in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. While different regions have featured their own translations to reflect local language and tradition in the past, that won’t be the case any longer.
Quartz sheds more light on the situation in a new article:
Now Nintendo wants to unify them: Pokémon in Greater China will be officially called ?????, or Jingling Baokemeng in Mandarin (Jingling means “spirit” or “elf,” and Baokemeng is a transliteration of Pokémon). Earlier in Hong Kong, it was ?????, Pet Little Elves (or Spirits), while in Taiwan, it was ????, Magic Babies.

Writer shares some words about the Mega Man animated series
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 54 Comments
The Mega Man animated series was made entirely official this past week. Some concrete details about the show were announced, and we were even given a first look at the character’s appearance. Unfortunately, the fan reception wasn’t too hot.
Joe Kelly is one of the writers involved with the new Mega Man animated series. Likely in response to the harsh reception thus far, he put up a few messages on Twitter on Thursday.
Here’s what Kelly shared:
1 – I want to thank everyone for loving MegaMan and having such strong opinions. That's really cool…
— Joe Kelly (@JoeKellyMOA) May 26, 2016
2 – Even cooler when you express them with care and thought. Nothing I can say will counteract the shock you may feel when…

Yuji Horii looking to bring passwords back in Dragon Quest XI
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, General Nintendo, News | 4 Comments
The Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Countdown Special was hosted a couple of days ago. There wasn’t too much on Dragon Quest XI, but series creator Yuji Horii did share something quite interesting about the RPG.
Horii mentioned that he wants to bring back the “Spell of Restoration” in Dragon Quest XI. This refers to the password system in the original games which allowed players to continue their progress. Since then, the save data system has taken its place, but Horii surprisingly said that he’d like to see it return. How it will be used in modern times is unknown, but Horii gave a cryptic remark which seemed to hint at utilizing both systems.
