Yesterday, several patents relating to Nintendo’s planned Quality of Life platform were published. As was previously announced, they mostly seem to center around monitoring the user’s health via non-wearable devices. Of course, as is the case with all patents, it seems unlikely that all of these will appear in exactly these forms in the final product(s), but it’s nonetheless an interesting look at what Nintendo has plannend.

qol patent

This information processing system comprises a portable terminal. The portable terminal detects sensor information for assessing a user’s emotions. It would be permissible, as an example, for the sensor information to be sound information which is detected by a microphone, or image information which is captured by a camera. The information processing system assesses the user’s emotions on the basis of the sensor information. The portable terminal detects the sensor information in a period when the said portable terminal is in a standby state. As an example, the said standby state is a state wherein a display of the portable terminal is off.

qol patent 2

This display system is provided with a sensor, a projector, and a control means. The sensor detects user information for calculating a state relating to sleep of a user. The user information is, for instance, biological information, such as pulse rate. The projector displays, by means of projection, a predetermined image. For instance, the projector displays, by means of projection, an image on a ceiling by projecting the image upward. The control means controls the projector corresponding to the sleep-related state calculated on the basis of the user information.

qol patent 3

A terminal system acquires physiological information from a user and transmits transmission information to a server system, said transmission information including the physiological information and/or health information relating to the health or the body of the user, obtained from said physiological information. The server system associates the transmission information received from each terminal system, and/or information obtained from said transmission information, with the user, and stores these as stored information. The server system also stores conditions relating to the generation of provided information, to be provided to the user in order to improve metrics obtained from the stored information, or metrics included in the stored information. The provided information is generated on the basis of the stored information and the conditions, and is transmitted to the user’s terminal. The server system performs an analysis of transmission information acquired after the provided information has been provided, for a plurality of users that have received the provided information, and updates the conditions on the basis of the analysis results.

Update by Brian (7/23): We’ve bumped this to the top. Game Informer has now posted its unabridged interview, which you can find here. John Numbers also posted a response on Twitter to the site’s original piece in order to clarify what he originally said.

Game Informer recently interviewed John Numbers, who won the 2015 Nintendo World Championship. Some excerpts from the interview:

Where did the name John Numbers come from?

Before I got into the Smash community, I basically used John followed by a few numbers for Internet aliases. I did the same thing when I first got into the Brawl competitive community one year after its released. A few years in people were just like, “Hey John. John 12346 sounds stupid. How about John Numbers.” And eventually it just stuck.

Did you go back and watch Cosmo’s performance during Mario Maker?

I’m actually a very big 2D Mario buff. I have a lot of experience with pretty much every 2D Mario game. I was going in pretty hard on that. I said, “What happened Cosmo? You were doing so well on the first and third levels?” To see him just perform like that? It was a letdown honestly. I was hoping it would be a good match, but he only got into the pipe as I killed Bowser. I got a chance to talk to him and he didn’t choke or anything. He just wasn’t familiar with the mechanics, that’s all.

What was it like meeting Shigeru Miyamoto?

When I won, I was like “Oh boy a trophy,” and I was being snarky because I knew I was getting a trophy – they said so on twitter. But it wouldn’t be any fun without some surprises, so here’s a guest: Miyamoto. And oh my gosh, I was star struck when that happened. I was floating there and I shook his hand. I was overjoyed to meet the man. I shook his hand and basically said thank you for all of the games and experience you’ve provided for us over the years. I’ve had a good time gaming with Nintendo. And he said thank you. He more or less understood what I said.

What are you doing with your 3DS and your trophy?

I was a little annoyed Cosmo got a 3DS, too. My prize was a 3DS and trophy, but he got a 3DS, too. The 3DS I’m going to keep for a very long time, at least for sentimental purposes. I might sell it one day, I probably won’t, but you never know. It might be worth a lot in the future. I’m more likely to sell the trophy because that thing doesn’t even have my name on it (laughs). It’s just a really heavy, 25 lb trophy. I think it’s made of lead.

Haruki Satomi, CEO of SEGA Games, conducted an interview with Famitsu earlier this month. He talked about wanting to make quality games, and learn from its subsidiary Atlus.

Most fans reacted positively to what Satomi shared with Famitsu. He has since commented on the reaction, in which he told Siliconera:

“Seeing our fans across the world respond to our recent interview with Famitsu, lets us know we’ve made the right first step in acknowledging who we are and where we want to be. Sega is dedicated to bringing you quality gaming experiences and becoming a brand you love and trust again.”

If you’re still looking for a Jigglypuff amiibo, you should head on over to Target’s website. The figure is currently in stock on the retailer’s website. To place an order, check out the official page here.

Thanks to Mike for the tip.

More:

Raru, a retailer in South Africa, has listed the Mewtwo amiibo for release on October 23. Nintendo has naturally not confirmed such a date.

We tend to be cautious when it comes to retailer listings, but Raru’s listing is interesting. You may recall that they leaked the Splatoon amiibo and game’s launch date before the information was announced. This doesn’t necessarily confirm that the Mewtwo date is accurate, but it may be worth paying attention to.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.
