If the latest rumors are to be believed, Shovel Knight will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS as a DLC character.

Nintendo Life heard the apparent news from “multiple sources within the video game retail sector”. However, Shovel Knight’s inclusion in the games has of course not been confirmed (or denied) at this time.

The announcement about Shovel Knight being added to Super Smash Bros. could be made within the next month or two. Development is said to be going well, and the character – who would be getting its own amiibo – may release sooner rather than later.

The next wave of amiibo figures are available for pre-order from the official Nintendo UK store. Figures available right now include Captain Olimar, Dr. Mario, R.O.B., and the Mii Fighters.

Shin’en is still working on FAST Racing Neo for the Wii U eShop. But in terms of what the future holds, we could hear about the studio’s next game in 2016. The company, unsurprisingly, will almost certainly be sticking with Nintendo platforms with future titles.

Shin’en’s Martin Sauter told Nintendo World Report in an interview at Gamescom:

“We’re already brainstorming but we can talk about it when we’re ready. Fact is, we don’t know what’s in the future, but we’d love to stick with Nintendo hardware, eShop games and if FAST is a success we’ll keep going. Maybe next year we’ll talk about the next game.”

In July, Nintendo picked up a trademark for Pikuroito in Japan. The main takeaway is that the filing is associated with stationary game consoles, portable game consoles, phones and arcade machines.

One theory floating around is that Pikuroito could be one of the mobile games Nintendo will release. It’s worth noting that a similarly-named puzzle game, a title developed by BTD Studio, is available on Android via Google Play – though perhaps that’s just a coincidence.

Flowers will apparently be playing a big role in the future of Pokemon. When asked for a tease of what lies ahead for the series, The Pokemon Company director of consumer marketing J.C. Smith pointed to this keyword. Sadly, Smith didn’t share any additional information.

Update (8/24): Bumped to the top. Mighty Switch Force! Academy has been announced, and it’s hitting Steam Early Access tomorrow. What does this mean for Nintendo players? Well, WayForward is open to bringing the game to additional platforms – hopefully Wii U and/or 3DS.

Original (8/20): A tweet sent out on WayForward’s Twitter account has started up the rumor mill once again. The message, posted below, suggests that a new Mighty Switch Force! game is on the way.

We’ve seen two Mighty Switch Force! games on Nintendo platforms thus far. It’d certainly be interesting to see what WayForward would have in store for another game.
