General Nintendo

Nintendo piqued the curiosity of some of its fans today due to some activity at Universal CityWalk Hollywood. The company was filming something there, though we’re not quite sure what.

Universal CityWalk Hollywood is of course located in California by Universal Parks & Resorts. The first thought that may come to mind is something related to Super Nintendo World, but even so, the filming taking place still raises questions.

On Friday, the brand new Pearl and Marina amiibo for Splatoon 2 will be launching. View an unboxing video below that also has a closer look at the two figures.

Mega Man animated series

Although it was first made known in 2015, we’ve seen relatively nothing from the Mega Man: Fully Charged animated series. That will finally be changing this month.

The schedule for San Diego Comic-Con 2018 reveals that Mega Man: Fully Charged will have its own panel. Capcom’s Kazuhiro Tsuchiya and others “will discuss the background and creative evolution of the new series, followed by screening of never-before-seen footage from the show”.

During Nintendo’s 78th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, one investor asked about the release of official soundtracks and making use of the company’s IPs. Director / managing officer Shinya Takahashi and Shigeru Miyamoto both weighed in on this front.

The two stated:

We don’t typically cover Nintendo’s share price here and the situation with the stock market for one reason. It can be fickle, and often predictable. When there’s good news, chances are that the price will rise. The same also goes in the opposite direction with bad news.

Now former president Tatsumi Kimishima as well as director / managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi weighed in on the situation, stating:

During its 78th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Nintendo was asked about a possible synergy between Nintendo attractions at Universal Studios Japan and the company’s current products. Former president Tatsumi Kimishina and Shigeru Miyamoto both provided some comments about this.

Here’s what the two shared:

Nintendo Labo

Nintendo has a lofty goal in mind for the fiscal year ending in March 2019. The company is targeting 20 million hardware units sold for Switch to go along with 100 million software units.

During Nintendo’s 78th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, the Big N was asked how the current situation compares to its estimates. Former president Tatsumi Kimishima spoke about this as well as the performance of Nintendo Labo.

At the start of 2018, Nintendo announced a partnership with Illumination for a new Mario movie. Chris Meledandri is a producer on the project, as is Shigeru Miyamoto.

The movie is likely early on in production, so it makes sense that details surrounding it are mostly unknown. But Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime did comment on the film in an interview with IGN, stating that it’s intended to appeal to Mario fans as well as newcomers.

The Washington Post caught up with Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai around E3 time. He shared some interesting comments about competitive gaming, among other things.

One noteworthy topic addressed is Smash Bros. Melee. In Sakurai’s view, he believes many players gave up on the game “because it’s too technical, because they can’t keep up with it.”

The Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom Weekly Shonen Jump 50th Anniversary Edition has launched in Japan, and some fans have posted unboxing videos online. We’ve included a couple below.
