Atlus and NIS America’s partnership recently ended. While some were concerned about what this would mean for Atlus games in Europe, the company has struck a deal with a new partner.
A collaboration has been announced today to have Deep Silver publish multiple Atlus and SEGA titles across European and PAL territories. Physical and digital versions of 7th Dragon III Code: VFD, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, and Persona 5 will be made available.
Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media/Deep Silver, said of today’s news:
“We are delighted to have signed this publishing partnership and look forward to using all our pan-European publishing network to maximize the potential of the ATLUS and SEGA games.”
Atlus and SEGA’s Naoto Hiraoka also mentioned:
“In entering this partnership with Deep Silver, I am truly delighted we will be able to release our titles in the European regions. Not only does the deal span multiple titles, but Deep Silver has a strong presence in European and PAL retailers. They have a strong passion for being able to deliver physical games to our fans in those territories, which we hold in high regard.”
Dates for games have not yet been determined. It was also teased that additional titles are planned for the publishing deal.

Nintendo’s new handheld-related patent focuses on sound / vibration tech
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 22 Comments
Last December, Nintendo filed a new patent for a “hand-held information processing apparatus”. It was made public just recently.
Here’s the abstract:
A non-limiting example information processing apparatus comprises a housing, and a left speaker and a right speaker are provided in a left end portion and a right portion of the housing and in an inside of this housing. Each speaker is arranged such that a vibration direction of a diaphragm becomes in a direction perpendicular to a plane surface of a display panel that is provided in the front of the housing. Sound emission portions for emitting sounds from the speakers are formed in both end portions of the housing and on a side surface at near side or this side that the speakers are arranged. Therefore, sounds are emitted toward a side of a player who holds the information processing apparatus. A vibrator that is provided between the two speakers is driven simultaneously with the speakers or in a predetermined order.
The patent talks about how how vibrators placed throughout the device combine with 3D sound. As a character moves across the screen, the handheld’s sound output would follow along between two speakers on both sides of the device. It would also feature vibration to react to on-screen actions and the sound.
Another image shown in the patent filing has a peripheral that can be placed on the core device. As Nintendo Life points out, “it replaces parts of the screen that would otherwise be virtual buttons with physical inputs.”

Miyamoto on the Mario homage in Disney’s 2013 Mickey Mouse short
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 5 Comments
A few years ago, Disney came out with a new Mickey Mouse short that has the famous character making his way through Tokyo. For a brief couple of moments, there’s a scene that pays homage to Mario with classic sound effects and all.
Game Informer decided to ask Shigeru Miyamoto about the short at E3 last month. He hadn’t seen it, nor did he know about its existence at all. After looking at the video, he did say, “Is copyright an issue for them to use our sounds? [Laughs] It’s very flattering. We finally got a cameo together.”
Ask Game Informer said that this meant Mickey Mouse could be used in one of his games, Miyamoto shook his head and responded, “They are very strict. [Laughs].”
We’ve posted the full Mickey Mouse short below for those that are interested. The Mario homage comes in at the 2:25 mark.
