Mario Kart Tour has a different way of unlocking characters and vehicles compared to previous entries in the series. Tying in with its mobile roots, they have a certain rarity type and appearance rate. Content can be unlocked at random by launching the “Pipe” after completing races or getting involved with microtransactions.

We now have some additional information as to how the Pipe works. Each one has 100 launches in total, though players are guaranteed to receive the time-sensitive Tour Spotlight items like Pauline within those 100. Although Pipes can be reset, there’s no guarantee of being given all unique items within its use. Obtaining duplicate items can cause a character’s, kart’s or glider’s skill level to increase.

As for the gatcha/appearance rates, they are as follows:

Niantic has announced a new World Tourism Day event for Pokemon GO. Starting tomorrow, players can participate in a number of activities. Here’s a full rundown of the event:

Mario Kart Tour is now available – if you can get past the influx of traffic currently hammering the app. Get past a brief tutorial and you’ll then be able to access the full game, including the menu.

That menu leaves an interesting tease for the future. While you can unlock various aspects of Mario Kart Tour by playing, there’s one element currently listed that can’t be accessed: multiplayer. Tap on it and you’ll be shown a message stating: “Available in a future version update.”

Mario Kart Tour currently lacks multiplayer, which is something that had concerned fans. Although it isn’t included at launch, we at least know Nintendo intends to add the mode in later down the road.

A new update for Pokemon Masters is now starting to roll out. Version 1.2.0 includes some additions/quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and more.

Below are the full patch notes:

Nintendo has announced a new Gold Pass subscription service for Mario Kart Tour. By paying $4.99 each month, players can access more in-game rewards. First-time users are eligible for a two-week free trial.

Nintendo highlights the following benefits for subscribers:

Ahead of service starting in just a few hours, Mario Kart Tour is now available to download on both IOS and Android.

Service is officially slated to start at 1AM PT/5PM JST. Currently, starting up the game yields a “Under Maintenance” message.
