Wii U

A trailer shown for Splatoon last year gave us a brief look at the game’s single-player campaign. You may remember an incredibly brief scene included in the video that showed some sort of 2D gameplay.

This may have resurfaced during this week’s Nintendo Direct. Take a look at the screencap below:

This week’s Nintendo Direct showed a good portion of what’s included in the Hyrule Warriors Majora’s Mask Pack. We got a look at new playable characters and the new Adventure mode map. Additionally, new costumes were teased through silhouettes.

Now we know for sure just what those costumes are. Lana is receiving a new Skull Kid outfit, while there will be new Ocarina of Time outfits for Impa and Sheik respectively.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is off to a strong start in the U.S. “creamsugar”, a trustworthy source when it comes to NPD data leaks, says that the game managed to sell roughly 250,000 copies last month.

We also have some data for the retail versions of NES Remix. NES Remix Pack for Wii U and Ultimate NES Remix for 3DS sold a combined 130,000 copies in the U.S. during December.

Thanks to Bobalu for the tip.

Per usual, Nintendo has issued its response to the latest NPD report.

Wii U sales were their best ever in the U.S. for the month of December. Additionally, total hardware and software sales in 2014 rose by over 29 percent and over 75 percent respectively compared to the previous year.

Let’s not forget about the 3DS! The portable experienced its largest month ever for first-party software sales. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has already sold over two million combined physical and digital copies while Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have moved over 2.6 million physical and digital units.

On the amiibo front, figure sales “are nearly twice the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.” That means close to 2.6 million amiibo have been sold in the U.S. thus far.

You may remember that, last year, a Game Developers Conference poll showed that only four percent of developers surveyed intended to make games for Wii U. GDC organizers today published its new annual state of the industry report, revealing that this statistic has increased slightly.

The percentage of developers planning to release a game on the Wii U rose slightly in 2014 compared to the previous year. Approximately six percent of survey participants said they are currently making a title that will launch on Wii U. That’s also up from 2013’s figure of just 4.6 percent.

GDC’s state of the industry report is based on results from over 2,000 North American developers who attended the conference in 2014.
