System: 3DS
Release date: July 28, 2017
Developer:: Arzest
Publisher: Nintendo

Genre-altering spinoffs are not an entirely new concept in the gaming world, especially when it comes to Nintendo. Sometimes taking an existing IP and changing its genre and play style can breathe new life into a series; other times (more often than not it seems) it can work against the franchise and can leave fans of a certain series wanting a bit more than what was presented. In Hey! Pikmin for the 3DS, we see Nintendo and developer Arzest try and introduce those adorable sentient carrots and our intrepid, inter-galactic delivery man to Nintendo’s handheld. While Hey! Pikmin has plenty of the same charm that the mainline console Pikmin titles have, it lacks the depth and strategy that fans have come to admire the series for.

This has been a big week for Lost Sphear. The RPG received an October release date in Japan, and a late January 2018 launch in the west.

Famitsu also had coverage of Lost Sphear in its latest issue. Square Enix actually covered most of the news in English through a post on the PlayStation Blog. Along with characters Sherra and Obaro, we’re introduced to the mechanized armor Vulcosuit.

Here’s the full rundown:

Xenoblade developer Monolith Soft recently posted an interesting job listing on its website. The company is recruiting a game planner for its main branch in Tokyo.

The person hired would be involved with: creating specifications of characters and actions; draft, design, and construct battles and rules. Overall, Monolith wants someone who has experience with developing action games.

Mario Kart Arcade GP VR is one of several attractions at VR Zone Shinjuku. We’ve seen various versions of Mario Kart in arcades before, but this marks the first time that it’s in VR.

Of course, Nintendo didn’t develop the game directly. Like previously Mario Kart Arcade GP titles, Bandai Namco was primarily responsible. However, that doesn’t mean Nintendo was absent from the process entirely.

As it turns out, Mario Kart Arcade GP VR was made in consultation with Nintendo. Shigeru Miyamoto even offered input while the project was in development. According to producers Junichiro Koyama and Yukiharu Tamiya, Nintendo reworked its IP rules to take the special requirements of VR into account.

It was nearly a week ago that Walmart took pre-orders for the Super NES Classic – or so we thought. The retailer ended up pulling the plug on reservations a few days ago.

In an email sent to customers, Walmart said that pre-orders went up “due to a technical glitch”. That’s fine and all, but those who thought they were lucky enough to score the system were dissatisfied that their orders were cancelled.
