SEGA Sammy senior executive officer Toru Nakahara, who has also acted as a producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, has provided some insight into the backstory and why the company decided to pursue films for the franchise.
In an interview with Pia, Nakahara said that even though Sonic has been a popular video game character in Japan, due to many factors including SEGA withdrawing from hardware department after the Dreamcast, there were times when Sonic was unable to flourish.

Square Enix is bringing back yet another classic game before the end of the year in Tactics Ogre: Reborn, but not all fans have been on board and there has been some criticism levied against aspects like the graphics. The original title featured pixel graphics, and while Reborn retains the style, the art has a smoother look and the text font has been updated.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn producer Hiroaki Kato was asked about how the smoother look came to be in an interview with IGN. He ultimately explained that Square Enix was “thinking about how to show it on new modern technology with high-resolution screens” and “to show the power and beauty of the original pixel art on modern technology without them looking terrible.”

Tekken producer and Bandai Namco Entertainment general manager Katsuhiro Harada has commented on how Sakurai worked to bring Kazuya to Smash Bros. Ultimate, ultimately stating that “he’s probably the only one that could properly make that game.”
Harada thought Sakurai would ask questions to make sure the character was represented properly, but he “already had his own thoughts about what makes Tekken ‘Tekken.'” This is in part due to how familiar Sakurai was with the series. Harada was impressed by how much Sakurai knows about so many different gaming IPs and having them all integrated into Smash Bros. so successfully.

Each time Sonic team boss Takashi Iizuka is interviewed, it seems like Sonic Adventure is often brought up as well as the possibility of Sonic Adventure 3. That’s something Iizuka addressed once again recently.
When asked by Dot Esport what Iizuka would want to do if he had free reign to add anything he wanted to a Sonic game, he actually pointed to creating “the next Sonic Adventure game”. However, he acknowledged that a third title “would take a whole of investment from the company, a lot of development time, and a lot of game volume to really bring something to market”.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle director Davide Soliani has spoken about the pressure faced while making the game, and actually thought that people would end up hating it. He even believed it’d be the last game he’d work on.
To be fair, when the title leaked before its official reveal, many had doubts that a crossover between the Mario and Rabbids franchises would work. Soliani told GamesIndustry that he initially saw “the worst messages” on forums, but the consensus changed once the official announcement was made.
