Koei Tecmo

Nintendo teamed up with Koei Tecmo for Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3’s Japanese release last year. By playing an eShop demo, players could access costumes based on Link and Zelda from Hyrule Warriors.

Unfortunately, Koei Tecmo won’t be offering these items in next month’s western version. The company told Siliconera that “those costumes are Japan-exclusive”.

Koei Tecmo shared a batch of screenshots from Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 and Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 following today’s announcement of both 3DS games. View the full set of images below.

Koei Tecmo is bringing two more games to the 3DS. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 as well as Nobunaga’s Ambition DS are planned for the platform. Both games require some explanation.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2, despite the name, is a remake of Romance of the Three Kingdoms III – a game from the PC/Mega Drive/Super NES era. It features new scenarios, 100 new military commanders, and an editor that allows players to edit commanders and cities.

Nobunaga’s Ambition DS is a remake of the eighth title in the series, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Tales of the Storms. It’ll come with two new scenarios, 100 additional commanders, an easier-to-play interface, and eight more save slots. Making matters more confusing, the 3DS version will be called “Nobunaga’s Ambition 2”.

Koei Tecmo is bringing Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 and Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 to Japan on August 6. A Premium Box for Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 features the game, a soundtrack CD (26 tracks,) original micro-fiber cloth pouch, and special stickers for 6,800 yen plus tax. There’s also a Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 Premium Box planned, which includes the soundtrack CD, micro-fiber pouch, and a 30th anniversary sticker set. Consumers can purchase a twin pack containing both games for 8,800 yen, and also includes a pack of 12 poster cards for Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2.

During Level-5’s “Vision” event in March, a few new 3DS games were announced. One of these was Yo-Kai Sangokushi, which is a new collaboration title in partnership with Koei Tecmo.

This week’s issue of Famitsu has an interview with Koei Tecmo Games head Hisashi Koinuma. As expected, Yo-Kai Sangokushi was one of the things the magazine asked about.

Famitsu starts off by mentioning that he surprised by the fact that Yo-Kai Sangokushi is a collaborative title between Yo-Kai Watch and Romance of the Three Kingdoms. This led Koinuma to say:

Romance of the Three Kingdoms has its 30th anniversary in 2015, so everyone in the company is excited. I think Yo-Kai Sangokushi is a fitting title to adorn the 30th anniversary. I’m especially happy that Level-5 president Akihiro Hino likes Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Yo-Kai Sangokushi was announced during the Level-5 Vision event earlier today. We didn’t make much mention of it as platforms were unannounced at the time, but the game’s website appears to confirm the project for 3DS.

Level-5 is collaborating with Koei Tecmo on Yo-Kai Sangokushi, which is a Yo-Kai Watch and Romance of the Three Kingdoms crossover. Koei Tecmo’s Kou Shibusawa is producing the title.

You can find the Yo-Kai Sangokushi website here.

Hyrule Warriors’ Boss Pack has finally arrived in North America. This is the final piece of downloadable content for the title. It’s free to those who purchased all of the DLC as the bundle, and it regularly costs $2.99.

Sales of the Dynasty Warriors games have been in a bit of a decline. The series isn’t performing quite as well as it used to.

However, according to Koei Tecmo producer Akihiro Suzuki, spin-offs like Hyrule Warriors renewed interest in the franchise. Koei Tecmo must now satisfy players while keeping the series fresh, he said.

Suzuki told MCV:

Over the years we’ve seen a sales decline. The Dynasty Warriors series is targeted towards the core fans. But we’ve had a few collaborations recently that have given the franchise a second wind because they’ve brought in new fans that hadn’t given Dynasty Warriors a chance. So Hyrule Warriors gave the series some freshness. Now our task is to keep the new players happy now that they’ve had a chance to play. But overall with the franchise, we need to keep it fresh, both the Dynasty Warriors and the Samurai Warriors brands.
