The Snack World is what Level-5 is hoping will be its next big franchise. An anime has been running in Japan, and the 3DS companion game just debuted in Japan last week. Dengeki has more on the debut sales.

Depending on which sales tracker you go with, The Snack World sold between 85,000 and 100,000 copies in its first week. Dengeki says that it sold through 55 percent of its initial shipment.

Gaming sales were particularly strong in Japan last week. With the Obon holiday in full swing, it’s a good sign. Hardware and software both outdid last year’s Obon, and Media Create has more on that front.

Splatoon 2 and Dragon Quest XI made major contributions to the overall software sales. The two games sold 88,000 copies and 208,000 copies respectively (the latter figure is Dragon Quest’s 3DS and PlayStation 4 sales combined).

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is finally starting to send out some extra Switch stock. Thanks to that, the system was the best-selling console in the United States last month. NPD has confirmed that Switch outsold the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in July. The system is also contributing to a healthy gaming market in the United States.

NPD analyst Mat Piscatella says that hardware spending has increased by 20 percent compared to 2016 to $1.6 billion. “Performance of the Nintendo Switch continues to be the primary cause of the year-on-year gains,” Piscatella said.
