Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Masahiro Sakurai

As mentioned earlier this week, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has published his newest column in the latest issue of Famitsu. In the article, Sakurai talks about the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 and the eventual end of DLC, how he does not handle whom is chosen to be a fighter, his role, the future of the series after Ultimate, and more.

We’ve prepared a full translation of the column below the break.

Usually when a developer is asked if they’d like to see one of their characters or series appear in Super Smash Bros., they give an enthusiastic response. That was the case with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, who was recently asked about the possibility of the fighting franchise being represented in Ultimate.

Boon said that he’s personally interested in the idea, noting that “it would be like a stamp of approval.” He added that he “would love to see something like that” and how it “would be a really cool thing to see.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has again published a new column in the latest issue of Famitsu. Although there weren’t any new character announcement, he still had a decent amount to say about the Switch title.

Below is a summary of what was shared in the article:

Nintendo has announced the latest tournament event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This time around, the theme is based around the 1990s. The tournament will be limited to characters and stages from that decade.

Players can expect the event to begin on February 21. Look for it to last a total of three days.

In this week’s issue of Famitsu, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai wrote up his latest column in the Japanese magazine. Many of his pieces as of late haven’t been related to the Switch game, but seeing as Byleth has now been added, he felt he should publish a few words on the character’s creation.

We published a brief summary of Sakurai’s column a few days ago. Now, however, we have a full translation – which does include some quick mentions of Smash Bros. having too many Fire Emblem characters and sword-users.

Here’s the full piece:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already has five DLC characters, but the fun isn’t stopping there. It was announced last month that another six fighters are set to be delivered by the end of 2021.

There’s always speculation as to who could be joining the game. Sora from Kingdom Hearts is one such character that’s been highly requested by fans, but it has yet to happen. Apparently, that isn’t due to a lack of interest on Nintendo’s part.

The 13th tourney event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now live. This event focuses on fighters that use bows, lances, and axes. The event will be live until February 10th.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai returns in Famitsu this week with his bi-weekly column. Seeing as Byleth was recently added to the Switch game, Sakurai spoke about the new character – and also addressed some fan complaints that there are too many Fire Emblem characters and sword users.

Here’s a summary of some of the information shared in the column:
