Switch had its best October yet from a sales perspective in the United States. Over 735,000 units were sold between the original Switch and Switch Lite, Nintendo has announced. That mark is the second-highest October mark ever, only behind the 807,000 units sold by Wii in 2008. Total Switch sales in the U.S. are now at over 22.5 million units.
Switch was again the best-selling console in the United States last month. That’s been true for 23 consecutive months, which is the most months in a row for any console since NPD began tracking data.

Nintendo has had continued success with Switch since the system launched in 2017. The pattern has continued through this year, and 2020 may actually be the platform’s best year yet from a sales perspective.
That’s further backed up by the NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella. In a tweet shared earlier today, Piscatella revealed that in the United States, Switch sold more hardware units in Q3 than any platform since the DS in 2009.
2020 has been a strong year for the gaming industry overall. Total industry consumer spending on video gaming in the U.S. reached $11.2 billion in the third quarter, a 24 percent increase year-over-year.
The Pokemon Company on why Pokemon Sword/Shield had DLC in favor of a third game

It wasn’t until Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield that the series received major DLC. Whereas past entries often saw a third game/version later on, the two Switch titles were instead given expansions in the form of The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.
Game Informer recently asked The Pokemon Company about this new approach. Regarding DLC and whether they take the approach of traditional follow-up third games, they said:

Pokemon GO to Pokemon Home functionality now live
Posted on 4 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News, Switch eShop | 0 comments
Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home have updated with new functionality, allowing the two apps to connect.
Players can set up a link with their Nintendo Account in the settings area. Once that’s complete, Pokemon can be sent with the Home Transporter. Keep in mind that Transporter Energy is needed to move Pokemon from GO to Home.
If you transfer a Pokemon, you’ll receive a Melmetal that can Gigantamax, and it can be used in Pokemon Sword/Shield.

Nintendo wants Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to be able to enjoy the game for a long time, will implement more in-game events

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Nintendo’s biggest success of the year. No one could have predicted that it would have sold over 26 million copies in just a few months. Nintendo wants that success to continue, with president Shuntaro Furukawa stating during the company’s financial results conference call that with its first year-end sales season approaching, “we hope even more people will take that opportunity to purchase the game.”
Those that already have Animal Crossing: New Horizons can look forward to more content in the future. Furukawa said Nintendo “will continue to implement in-game events and would like to create a situation where consumers will keep enjoying the game for a long time.”

Nintendo says it has no plans for its own cross-platform games

When Pokemon Unite releases, it’ll support full cross-platform play. Switch and smart devices will be fully compatible, allowing all users to connect online together.
While The Pokemon Company is trying out cross-platform play, the feature is not something that Nintendo itself is pursuing at the moment. President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed there are currently no such plans to integrate the functionality for its titles during the company’s financial results conference call last week.

When you think about Nintendo’s major markets, North America, Europe, and Japan come to mind. However, other regions of the world are beginning to have more of an impact, including Asia.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about sales in Asia during the company’s latest financial results conference call. As part of that, we hear that in China, “Ring Fit Adventure got off to a great start when it was released by them on September 3 and it continues to sell well.”
Furukawa had this to say about Asia:
