Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has provided an update on the sales situation surrounding Switch. Speaking with Kyoto Shimbun, Kimishima stated that the company would like to sell over 20 million units in the next fiscal year that begins in April.

Kimishima added that Nintendo hopes to increase momentum by releasing games that offer new ways to play. Another part of the strategy is to beef up DLC offerings so that users can play games for a longer period of time.

Originally planning on releasing 64-gigabyte cartridges to developers by the end of 2018, Nintendo has delayed their availability to outside developers until 2019.

The Switch cartridge with the largest memory capacity today can hold 32 gigabytes. It seems that massive games will have to wait a little longer.

Nintendo has stated that the delay is due to “technical issues.” It has been suggested by the Wall Street Journal that Nintendo could alternatively have business ties with rival companies that prevents them from releasing the cartridges so early.

The Zelda timeline has always been something of great interest for fans of the series. On the other hand, Nintendo tends to be a bit timid when talking about it. Although the series has been around since the late 80’s, it wasn’t until just a few years ago that Nintendo published an official timeline in Hyrule Historia.

With the arrival of the latest Zelda game in March, fans are curious as to where Breath of the Wild officially stands. You won’t get much of a concrete answer out of Nintendo concerning timeline placement, but its developers are aware of interest from fans.

The Media Create White Book 2017 has some interesting data that we don’t normally have access to. Included inside, sales are revealed for amiibo in Japan last year.

The book provides all sorts of information about the best-selling amiibo. These include the top ten figure sales, top five card sales, and share by series.

Here’s the full rundown:

Creating the Switch was no easy task. In previous interviews, Nintendo has brought up how the word “balance” was key during development. This was something that was mentioned again in an interview with Toyo Keizai.

General Switch producer Yoshiaki Koizumi noted how game developers tend to be interested memory and a quality GPU for higher specs. As a developer himself, Koizumi can understand this. However, there was also the need to make the machine light, small, and stylish while giving consideration to the battery as well. On top of everything else, Nintendo only had a set amount of time and resources to produce the new console. So ultimately, balancing all of these different aspects was the most difficult part in developing Switch.

Famitsu published a new interview this week with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma. It was pretty interesting, with Aonuma talking about Breath of the Wild winning “Game of the Year” at The Game Awards, including his mindset at the time and why he started out by saying “Thank you America!” He also spoke about The Champions’ Ballad DLC, and confirmed that development on the game has concluded.

We’ve prepared a translation with the most notable parts from Famitsu’s interview. You can read it below.

Can you believe that 2017 is almost over? For me personally, it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since the Nintendo Switch Presentation in January. But hey, that was almost a year ago!

This has been an incredible year for gaming, and Nintendo no doubt contributed to that. Switch made a huge splash, and a bunch of great games launched this year. From Nintendo on Switch alone we saw Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Splatoon 2, and ARMS. There were other heavy hitters as well like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Fire Emblem Warriors. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom, and many others helped round out the year. And don’t get us started on indie hits like Golf Story and SteamWorld Dig 2.

We also can’t forget about the 3DS. Sure, you could make a case that the system is winding down, but some great games came out there as well. Dragon Quest VIII, Monster Hunter Stories, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, were among the titles to have graced the dedicated portable this year.

With the year winding down we want to know what your Game of the Year is. Is it Zelda? Mario? Something else? Let us know in the comments below.

Several months ago, hackers discovered that the Switch has a special tribute to late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. On July 11, the day of Iwata’s passing, system owners could unlock Golf from the NES. You simply needed to perform his signature “direct” motion from the older Nintendo Direct presentations on the home menu.

For whatever reason, Nintendo decided to remove the Easter egg as of version 4.0.0. That firmware has been around since late October, but its removal was only detected recently. The official code was deleted from the home menu, and all code was overwritten. Even when you attempt to load it manually, an error will be returned.

Why did Nintendo ultimately remove the tribute? That we can’t say. We can only hope that it will return closer to July 2018.

Team Meat has announced a release date for the new Switch version of Super Meat Boy. On January 11, the game will be launching on the eShop.

Super Meat Boy originally came out in 2010, and has landed on many platforms since then. But even if you’ve purchased it before, there will be an incentive to pick it up again. Team Meat has revealed that on Switch, you’ll be able to partake in a brand new Race Mode.
