Just like they did for Michalis, the Fire Emblem Heroes Twitter account has revealed the team with the collective lowest rarity that successfully beat the recently held Navarre Grand Hero Battle. No singers or dancers were used and the units had no skills inherited. The team was 3-star Donnel, 3-star Sophia, 2-star Wrys and 3-star Michalis, all of them at level 40.

So there you have it – you don’t need to be lucky and have tons of 5-star units to beat the toughest challenges Fire Emblem Heroes has to offer.

The official Dragon Quest XI website has been updated with some new screenshots and pieces of artwork which show some important characters from Delcadar, which is the biggest country on the continent where Dragon Quest XI takes place. The folks at Gematsu have translated the following info:

The Rare Emperor – King of Delcadar

The ruler of Delcadar. He is called “rare” because he has all the qualities of a king – he is generous, but also strict and decisive when the order of the kingdom is disturbed. He is a master swordsman, and knows the hero very well.

The Great General – Greig

The brave general of Delcadar. The best swordsman in the kingdom, he has never been defeated despite having been in countless battles against monsters. He is extremely loyal and willing to sacrifice his life for the king. In a certain town, there is a statue dedicated to Greig’s military prowess.

The Cold-Blooded Strategist – Homer

The extremely skilled strategist of Delcadar. He has achieved great things on the battlefield, such as besting a large army with only a small battalion. His ability to quickly and accurately judge situations and execute the correct strategy has led to countless victories. He is also a powerful magic user.

Further details aren’t available at this point. It’s possible that this will be tied to the upcoming Pokemon movie in Summer in which Ho-Oh plays a major role, though we don’t know for sure yet.

Last month, Nintendo opened up Zelda and Mario portals on its Japanese website, which serve as information hubs for these two franchises and its characters. Today, the Mario portal was updated because of the impending release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch.

The character portal was updated to include Daisy, Yoshi, Wario and Waluigi. You can read brief descriptions of them there and listen to some voice clips. Much more impressive is the Mario Kart retrospective that was added to the portal. It lists every title released so far in the Mario Kart franchise and you can listen to some music clips while looking at screenshots and artwork from each game.

Pocket Rumble

Nintendo UK recently published an interview with Christian Stewart from Cardboard Robot Games, developer of the upcoming Switch 2D retro fighting game Pocket Rumble, on their website. Make sure to read the full interview here if you’re interested; below are some interesting excerpts:

On why the game is designed like a Neo Geo Pocket Color game:

Two buttons was a big, big thing about Neo Geo Pocket. Somehow SNK got really complex, complicated fighting games that felt close to the Neo Geo arcade games in portable format, with two buttons. There was some magic there that we wanted to replicate in which we could make a game that has only two buttons, but still have the complexity that something like Street Fighter, with six buttons, could have.

On why the game is a natural fit for the Switch because of its local multiplayer capabilities:

Right, that’s exactly why we need to be on Nintendo Switch! This is the first time a handheld has really had the feel of playing on one console in local multiplayer. It’s perfect. We didn’t know anything about the Nintendo Switch when we were first designing the game but as soon as we heard about its capabilities we were like “this is perfect, this is exactly what we need to be on. This is a local, multiplayer, portable console and here we have this very important local multiplayer game that’s focussed on portability.” So it was a perfect fit!

On the challenges of making a game with the limitations of a Neo Geo Pocket Color-inspired art style:

The resolution of those sprites is very, very small. It is very hard to convey certain things. Subtle nuances are very difficult to convey at such a small resolution. It’s absolutely worth it, because I think the Neo Geo aesthetic on top of the nostalgia just complements what the game is trying to do very well.

We’re trying to get rid of a lot of executional barriers and keeping things to their bare fundamentals, but those fundamentals are still very complex because they’re the inherent mechanics of 2D fighting games.

We’re simplifying as much as we can. So those simple, lower resolution graphics and limited colour palettes work really well with how much we’re focussing on the core combat mechanics.

Thumper was one of the games that was confirmed for the Switch at the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase in February. Since then, we haven’t heard much about it. Curiously, the game was actually shown off during the latest Nintendo Direct – but only in the Japanese version, despite the game being developed by a Western studio. It seems like NoE and NoA wanted less of a focus on indie games in their respective Directs.

The Japanese Direct revealed that Thumper will launch in May in Japan. We don’t know its European or North American release date yet, but thankfully, it’s easy to access the eShops of other regions on the Switch.

Ever since Splatoon 2 was first revealed, we’ve known that different kinds of legwear will be available in the game as an additional way of customizing your Inkling. What wasn’t known, however, was whether they would be tied to a specific shirt or shoes or whether you can freely choose which pants to wear. Footage from the latest Nintendo Direct now confirms that it’s the latter – the “Style” tab in the game’s options menu shows that the female Inkling can choose between standard pants, a skirt and spat.

This also confirms that are a total of four hairstyles to choose from for each gender.

More:

Earlier today, we learned that the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI will launch on July 29th in Japan. Nothing was said about the Switch version in the announcement stream though. However, journalist Takashi Mochizuki reached out to Square Enix regarding the Switch version of the game and received the following reply:

“It is still planned but no announcements today. Whether it launches together on the same day as PS4 and 3DS or not we cannot say today.”

A fairly noncommittal reply – at this point it seems unlikely that the Switch version will launch on July 29th as well, though Square Enix aren’t ruling it out.
