Upcoming book will cover the history of Rare
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 16 Comments
Rare split from Nintendo many years ago, but the company is nonetheless an integral part of the big N’s history. Some of the most memorable titles came from the studio. Without Rare, we wouldn’t have Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, and many other classics.
A new book from Dark Horse will let you take a trip down memory lane. Rare Treasures, tentatively slated for the end of August, will contain “the history and highlights of the iconic studio Rare, from birth to present day”. It’ll come with art, commentary, and new insights from the team, and more.

EA’s full comments about Switch

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently shared some new comments about Switch. During a financial call, Wilson was asked about how the publisher feels about the platform following its launch.
We thought it might be wise to pass along Wilson’s full comments. As transcribed by Seeking Alpha, he stated the following:
“So we feel really good about it. Again, we came out early and said that we’ll be supporting the Nintendo Switch with our biggest title in FIFA. We have a tremendous relationship with Nintendo and have done for many, many years and are excited by the fact that they have come out very strong and are bringing in a whole new player base into the ecosystem. We continue to be bullish on it and are looking at other titles that we might bring to the Switch.”

Fabraz’s recently-released Slime-san is on the way to Switch, the studio has revealed to Nintendo Everything. It’s currently targeted for Q3 of this year.
A build of Slime-san is up and running right now on Nintendo’s console. Fabraz approached Nintendo at GDC, and dev kits were sent out soon after.
This isn’t the first time we’re reporting on Slime-san. Originally, the game was planned for Wii U. Fabraz told us that this version “is currently on ice,” however.

How the world of Vistrahda was created in Ever Oasis
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 18 Comments
Nintendo put up another new Ever Oasis blog this week, led by director Koichi Ishii. Ishii went in-depth about how the world of Vistrahda was made.
Each time Ishii creates a new game, he always starts by coming up with the world setting. He draws the world map while considering various points like:
– Is the world a planet?
– What are the chemical elements that compose the planet?
– How do the climate and regions form based on those elements?
– What kinds of creatures live there?
– Are there humans and sub-human races?
– How do those humanoids live there?
– What are the personalities and traits of each race?
– What kind of tools are being used?
– What kind of things change with the passing of time?

Square Enix looking to sell five million copies of Dragon Quest XI
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Switch | 13 Comments
Square Enix has high hopes for Dragon Quest XI. When Square Enix delivered its latest financial results earlier in the week, CFO Kazuharu Watanabe mentioned that the company is looking to achieve sales of five million copies.
Kazuharu’s comment did not refer to one specific version of the game. Dragon Quest XI will be on 3DS and PlayStation 4, and eventually Switch as well. Kazuharu also did not say if the sales target only applies to Japan, though it may be unlikely for the RPG to head overseas within the next fiscal year.
Dragon Quest IX was the last big seller in the franchise at 4.3 million. However, when counting sales in the west, that amount is closer to 5.3 million.
Even if Dragon Quest XI sells more than IX, it might be difficult for it to surpass the DS game in terms of pure profit. After all XI has different versions involved and its scope is much larger.
