This week’s issue of Famitsu contains an interview with Pokemon president Tsunekazu Ishihara. Ishihara discussed Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and a few other topics, but the most interesting comments came about when he talked about the future of Game Freak’s titles.

Famitsu first inquires about Pokemon as a whole. When asked about the current situation and views of the future from his perspective, Ishihara teased:

A new report from Famitsu provides concrete details about the combat system in The Legend of Legacy. We’ve rounded up some details from Gematsu’s translation below.

– Enemies appear on dungeon maps
– Roam them and bumping into them triggers turn-based combat encounters
– The game uses spirits and magic to set itself apart from other RPGs
– Form contracts with spirits during battle to use elemental techniques known as “Spirit Arts”
– With their continued usage, strengthens spirits of the same element, as well as the corresponding Spirit Arts
– 4 element types: water (blue), wind (green), fire (red), and dark (purple)
– The balance of power between these four elements, which is displayed on the lower screen, changes over the course of battle as Spirit Arts are used
– Enemies can use Spirit Arts as well
– Therefore careful consideration of what elements are in play must be made in order to remain on top
– Good manipulation of the system is said to also make it possible for players to take out enemies that would otherwise be way out of their league, making elemental manipulation a major priority during fights
– “Implore”: form a contract with a water spirit
– After a special cutscene plays, water element Spirit Arts are unlocked for use in the fight
– The Spirit Arts that are unlocked through this process depend on the type of Spirit Vessel currently equipped
– Ex: the contract allows the water element Spirit Art “Splash Wall” to be used, which, in accordance with the name, erects a wall of water in front of the party, automatically protecting the party from enemy attacks, enabling everyone to focus purely on offense for the duration of it

Nintendo finally unveiled specific Quality of Life plans during its latest financial results investor briefing. View the overview below for a quick summary of information.

– QOL device is non-wearable, non-contact, non-operating (no controls), non-waiting, and non-installation efforts
– First QoL device monitors your sleep
– QoL device seems to send data monitored while you sleep to the cloud to be analyzed
– Teaming up with American company “resmed”
– Basically you put it next to your bed and sleep
– The device collects data and then presents a score along with ways to improve sleep and tiredness
– Things like dietary advice, exercise, etc.
– Separate services to be provided in order to improve QOL and be measured by the sleep sensor in a feedback loop
– QOL servers to connect with gaming devices, QOL servers, and smart devices to expand the definition of a platform
– “QOL Improvement” device(s?) will be compatible with Nintendo consoles and smart “devices”
– This begins starting in 2016

Pre-loading is coming to Wii U this year, Nintendo has announced. The functionality will arrive towards the end of 2014.

There are also plans to bring the same feature to 3DS sometime in 2015.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the company’s new pre-order plans during the company’s latest investor briefing.

Nintendo has prepared a new system update for 3DS – version 9.2.0-20. Unfortunately, it’s not quite as exciting as the last firmware, which added theme functionality.

Today’s update only has one purpose. Nintendo’s complete patch notes are as follows:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Nintendo has revealed a new Super Smash Bros. 3DS dual pack release which is coming to Japan next month. It’s due out on December 11.

The package, containing two copies of the game, is priced at 9,800 yen. It will come with a decorative present sleeve and stickers. Limited numbers will be available.

Runbow is probably going to end up supporting a whole bunch of control inputs. On Twitter, developer 13AM Games stated that the team intends to “use every kind of controller we can get the API for.” That could even mean support for GameCube controllers!
