[Let’s Talk] Reflecting on the end of 3DS

It was about a month ago that Nintendo announced that it’s sunsetting the 3DS. Production has discontinued, meaning no additional units will be shipped to stores. Developers can still technically release new games and the eShop will remain online, but for all intents and purposes, the 3DS’ life cycle is over.
The 3DS originally launched in 2011, so it’s been around for nearly a decade. A massive amount of titles have been released over that span. From Nintendo itself you’ve got games like Super Mario 3D Land, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem Awakening. Third-parties supported the system with Monster Hunter, the Bravely series, and Shin Megami Tensei IV.

[Let’s Talk] Nintendo releases you’re buying for the rest of 2020

As far as we know, Nintendo has revealed its full slate of games for the rest of 2020. Perhaps there will be a smaller title added in or a surprise like Bravely Default II isn’t delayed, but I think it’s safe to say that there won’t be any major surprises.
Things do at least seem a lot more encouraging now than they did earlier in the year. Over the past few weeks, we’ve found out about Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Super Mario 3D All-Stars (which just launched), Mario Kart Live, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Throw in extras like the Cadence of Hyrule physical release, Super Mario Bros. 35 and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., and the lineup is at least fairly packed.

[Let’s Talk] Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase – September 2020 reactions

The third Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase aired earlier this week. Unlike past presentations, this one was live streamed. Generally if Nintendo gives advance notice of a Nintendo Direct and doesn’t let you skip through it, there’s usually an important announcement.
The broadcast did indeed kick off with the biggest reveal of the show. Switch finally has its first original Monster Hunter game in Monster Hunter Rise, which is already confirmed for a March 2021 launch. And if that wasn’t enough, Monster Hunter Stories 2 is coming next summer.
Outside of Monster Hunter, Ori and the Will of the Wisps was revealed and immediately released. Hades and The Long Dark saw shadowdrops as well. In terms of other announcements, we found out about Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, Sniper Elite 4, and Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise. Rune Factory 5 is a game we knew about previously, but we now actually know what it looks like (and the game is now launching in 2021). [Let’s Talk] Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct reactions

Nintendo dropped another Nintendo Direct on us a few days ago. It’s been all about third-parties over the summer, but not this week. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario, fans were treated to all sorts of news and announcements.
There were obviously a few key highlights. Super Mario 3D All-Stars was finally confirmed, bringing Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy to Switch. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, a port of the Wii U title with new content and features, was also revealed. We also heard about Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Super Mario Bros. 35, and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. for the first time. Oh, and the original Super Mario All-Stars dropped on Nintendo Switch Online. There was other news that you can catch up on in the announcement recap here.

[Let’s Talk] Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase – August 2020 reactions

Another Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase is in the books. After the first presentation of its kind in July, it only took about a month for the next one. Also, as far as actual content and new announcements are concerned, there was noticeably more this time around.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend, Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack, World of Tanks Blitz, Rig Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions, and Just Dance 2021 were the new announcements. Other games were shown as well, including Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which received a November release date. In case you missed it, you can find the recap announcement here.

[Let’s Talk] Your Indie World Showcase highlights

Nintendo hosted one of its Indie World Showcase presentations this week. As is normally the case, we were able to check out a whole bunch of upcoming indie games for Switch. And while we usually get a few shadowdrops during these broadcasts, there were quite a few this time around – probably the most we’ve ever had. [Let’s Talk] Metroid Prime 4 hopes and dreams

Metroid fans have been waiting a long time for Metroid Prime 4, and it seems that the game is still pretty far out. When Nintendo made the original announcement at E3 2017, there wasn’t much to see. We were just given a logo… and that’s basically it. It’s more than likely that development hadn’t reached a point where Nintendo felt comfortable showing anything from the game itself.
The big blow concerning Metroid Prime 4 came at the start of 2019. It was never officially confirmed which developer was working on the project, but Nintendo decided to scrap everything that had been done up to that point and have Retro Studios take over. It was definitely not a bad idea to have the original Metroid Prime team lead development, but that meant fans would be forced to wait even longer for a proper look at the game, let alone the actual launch.
There’s very little that we know about Metroid Prime 4. As we wait for a proper update, now’s the time to think about what we’d like to see from the game. It should be a first-person adventure, but everything else is on the table. Is there a certain direction you’d like to see Retro take with Metroid Prime 4?
