Retro and Nintendo on their relationship, Retro could work on a game lead by Miyamoto

Retro Studios president Michael Kelbaugh and Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe commented on how the two companies cooperate in the development of projects in the latest issue of ONM.
To begin, Kelbaugh explained how the process is ultimately “a symbiotic relationship” between Retro, Nintendo SPD, “and other entities throughout the Nintendo family.”
He said:
“Tanabe-san and his team at SPD are our primary contacts at Nintendo. Please let me be clear: games developed at Retro Studios are a collaboration between members from Retro Studios, SPD and other entities throughout the Nintendo family. It’s a symbiotic relationship that consists of members from all over the world; we are very honoured to be working with such a talented team.
“When we worked on Mario Kart 7, we were working on Tropical Freeze at the same time. Part of the team was working on creating assets for Hideki Konno’s group, the Mario Kart team, and part of our team continued making progress on Tropical Freeze in conjunction with Tanabe-san and SPD.”
Kirby Triple Deluxe Sound Selection CD out now on Club Nintendo Japan

With the launch of Kirby Triple Deluxe in Japan, Nintendo has prepared a special Sound Selection CD for Club Nintendo. Those who purchase the 3DS title and register their copy can obtain the item for 250 points as opposed to 400. In total, the CD come with 46 tracks and 3 bonus tracks.

Shin’en not too interested in DLC

Chances are that you won’t be seeing DLC in any of Shin’en’s games. That’s because, as the company said on Twitter recently, the team doesn’t “plan for DLC”. Instead, Shin’en prefers to “release a 100% complete game for a fair price.”
Shin’en’s comments in full are as follows:

Analyst shares tidbits about Nintendo’s upcoming financial results

Nintendo will be announcing its latest financial results at the end of the month, and it’s certain to create some buzz. That’s a few weeks off, though.
In the meantime, analyst David Gibson has shared some insight about Nintendo’s upcoming results. You can find a roundup of his tweets below.

Nintendo to be the “Super Special Sponsor” of this year’s Nico Nico Chokaigi convention

Earlier today, Nico Nico held an announcement broadcast for its annual “Nico Nico Chokaigi” convention. The show was highlighted by an appearance from none other than Shigeru Miyamoto.
Miyamoto announced that Nintendo intends to act as the “Super Special Sponsor” this year. It’s a bit unclear as to what this entails – though perhaps it’s a sign that Nintendo has something special in store for fans.
Nico Nico Chokaigi will take place on April 27 and April 28.

Intelligent Systems now has its own building

Intelligent System has moved into its own, dedicated building. In the past, the maker of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and other prominent properties was located at the Kyoto Research Institute, one of Nintendo’s R&D locations in Kyoto.
Intelligent Systems’ move was completed in October. The new property can be found right near Nintendo’s primary building.

IA Labs Loses Patent Portfolio to Nintendo after Nintendo Wins Patent Lawsuit

Way back in April 2010, IA Labs sued Nintendo for patent infringement. The lawsuit never progressed as in February 2012, Nintendo put on a strong defense and obtained judgment in its favor.
IA Labs attempted to follow up with an appeal. However, in June 2013, the appeals court confirmed Nintendo’s win and was required to pay the company’s additional costs incurred in defending the appeal.
IA Labs did not end up paying the amount as ordered. As a result, a sheriff’s sale was conducted to sell IA Labs’ remaining assets. Nintendo was able to, in the process, acquire IA Labs’ entire patent portfolio at that sale as partial repayment for litigation costs.
