2018 will be featuring a yearlong parade of Legendary Pokemon. Dialga and Palkia are getting things started this month. To celebrate, Game Freak developers Shigeki Morimoto, Kazumasa Iwao, and Shigeru Ohmori were interviewed to discuss their inspiration for these two Pokemon. Check out the full interview below.

A new wave of rewards are now available in Europe. Most are discounts, but a Super Mario Odyssey wallpaper has been added as well.

As part of its coverage for Mega Man 11, Game Informer caught up with producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya to show off a stage from Mega Man 7 and talk about programming the game. At this point, it’s safe to say that there’s going to be a Nintendo Direct this month. An EA leak pointed to it. Amazon put up over a dozen placeholder listings yesterday before promptly taking them down. And it’s no secret that Nintendo’s lineup for this year is mostly a mystery.

All sorts of messages and special drawings have been sent out on social media over the past day or so to celebrate the start of 2018. Nintendo’s various social media accounts got in on the fun, and even Retro Studios sent out the rare tweet to ring in the new year. Other official accounts are also wishing their fans well, including Sonic and many others.

Two new Pokemon figures have been announced within the past week. Along with a Nendoroid for Giovanni, Lillie is also receiving another figure.

Pre-orders for Giovanni will open in Japan on January 19. Like other Nendoroids, it’ll have customizable parts.

As for Lillie, we don’t have much to go on at the moment. The figure itself hasn’t really been shown yet aside from the art below. It will be available sometime in 2018.

Over the past few years, we’ve heard more and more about Nintendo letting the younger generation of developers step into the limelight. Shigeru Miyamoto himself has also spoke previously about wanting to step back so that some of the newer staff can thrive.

Nintendo commented about this as part of a new feature on The New York Times. One noteworthy quote specifically is from Miyamoto, who said that he’s looking to bring in “designers who aren’t super-passionate game fans” because he wants them to have “different interests and skill sets.”
