Game Informer’s latest piece of Pokemon coverage is all about Pokemon spin-offs. Game Freak co-founder, director, and producer Junichi Masuda and Pokemon Sun/Moon director Shigeru Ohmori were both asked about their favorite ones.

As for Masuda, he went with Pokemon GO, though he’s unsure if it’s actually a spin-off game. Ohmori went with Pokemon Snap. He said that one of the best aspects of the N64 title was printing out the photos in real life.

The Metroid: Samus Returns amiibo can be pre-ordered on Best Buy once again. It’s up for grabs on the retailer’s website right here. The 2-pack will be available on September 15.

Earlier today, Nicalis tweeted out a brief GIF showing Quote of Cave Story fame in a new 3D model. The idea here is that the model is being used for something, though we’re not quite sure what it is yet.

We all know about Cave Story’s ties to Nintendo platforms. This may not be for a new game, but it could still be game-related. Some folks are speculating that the model will be used for Brawlout, which has indie characters and was announced for Switch last week. We’ll just have to wait and see…

The Pokemon Company and Snap Inc. have partnered on a custom Pikachu Snapchat Lens. Those who use the app as of today can use the Lens to see Pikachu’s ears, nose, and bright-red cheeks appear over their face. Users can then open their mouth to hear Pikachu’s iconic voice as it jumps onto the screen and strikes a pose.

The Snapchat Lens will only be available for a limited time. The Pokemon Company did not provide a specific end date, however.

Nintendo tends to appear at the regular PAX events each year. With PAX West 2017 just a few weeks away, the big N’s presence is confirmed – and in an interesting way.

The official PAX West schedule was published this week. We now know that Nintendo will be holding some sort of panel in the Hydra Theater on September 2 between 10 and 11 AM. The panel itself is a mystery at present, with its description simply stating: “A special Nintendo panel at PAX West 2017!”

Could it be for Metroid: Samus Returns? Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s upcoming DLC? Anything is on the table at this point. Nintendo should be announcing details about the panel soon, along with other plans it has in store for PAX West 2017.

Dusk Form Lycanroc was just announced for Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Next month, a plush for the new Pokemon will already be offered to consumers.

Takara Tomy is making the plush, which is about 15cm in height. Pricing will be set at 2,160 yen. We aren’t seeing it on the likes of Play-Asia yet, but we’ll let you know if that changes.

Nintendo surprised us this week by announcing the Nintendo World Championships 2017. After a two-year hiatus, the big tournament is returning. At least it’s better than the 25-year wait between the 1990 and 2015 editions, right?

You can access the official Nintendo World Championships website here. The page provides a look at the special pin that will be offered to My Nintendo members.

By using your My Nintendo code at the qualifiers held at select Best Buy stores, you can receive 100 Platinum Points. Also, the first 200 people to check in each day will receive the pin.

Last month, CoroCoro teased a new web anime for Splatoon. The first episode, titled “Rider”, has gone live.

Rather than a straight up anime, CoroCoro calls the series a “comic anime”. That’s because instead of true animation, it’s more along the lines of a manga with voiced dialogue. There are bits of animation sprinkled throughout, however.

We’ve included the new Splatoon comic anime below.
