Jakks Pacifics’ latest Splatoon products are nearly here. GameStop has listings up for the Splatoon Splattershot Mini and Splatoon Splattershot Blaster that will be sold on July 4. The two are priced at $30 and $15 respectively.

Both of these products are a part of the World of Nintendo line. They fire actual ink, and at least when it comes to the Splattershot Mini, it can shoot up to 50 shots.

Three new Zelda amiibo arrived today. You can pick up figures for Twilight Princess, Majora’s Mask, and Skyward Sword variations of Link. View an unboxing video below.

A new interview with Nintendo senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta is up from Ars Technica. The two chatted about the Switch stock situation, the NES Classic Edition, and fan games.

Continue on below for Scibetta’s comments. You can also read the original article here for a little bit of discussion about 3DS.

When Capcom was developing Mega Man 4 many years ago, the original plan was to include a sphinx mid-boss. Ultimately, it wasn’t included in the final game.

Someone actually took footage of the enemy way back in 1991, and that video is now online. It’s the first time we’re able to see it in motion.

Here’s a look:

Software developer Abhishek Singh has come up with a neat new way of using Hololens. Singh recreated World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros., and projected the game’s obstacles and objects as holograms in New York’s Central Park.

It’s not perfect – you can technically walk around the obstacles for instance. Nonetheless, it’s an admirable fan project, and perhaps something that could be expanded upon in the future.

The Verge published some choice quotes from some of the developers at Nintendo, including Shinya Takahashi, general manager of Nintendo’s software division, Nintendo EPD. Takahashi started off by commenting on when it makes sense to introduce a new IP.

He said:

“It’s not just about new characters. It’s also about thinking about how people will accept new systems and gameplay. Sometimes new intellectual property is the best way to introduce that.”

“Whenever we see a new, really fun prototype, there’s always going to be a moment where we think: ‘How do we give the most people the opportunity to play this? Is it something that needs to be in a Mario game, or is this something that feels like it should go in a new direction?’ And that’s a debate that happens every single time.”

The Sonic movie is something that’s been talked about for quite some time. We hadn’t previously heard when the film would debut, but a new interview offers a vague window.

The wait for Sonic’s new movie is still a couple of years away. In an interview with GamesIndustry, SEGA Networks’ chief marketing officer Mike Evans said that it’s “coming in 2019.”

Details about the Sonic movie are still mostly under wraps. One thing we do know is that it’s planned to feature a mix of CG and live-action segments.

Nintendo has announced a new partnership with LeSportsac that will see the Mario brand featured with a special collection of totes, backpacks and accessories.

Below are the full details of the collaboration:

“Holding a treasured place in the hearts of millions, Mario’s adventures have brought him to many strange places, including the far corners of the Mushroom Kingdom and galaxies beyond. Working with Nintendo, LeSportsac took Mario’s passion for exploration and translated it into the brand’s best-selling, on-the-go styles. These include crossbodies, totes, backpacks and weekenders, as well as small cosmetics and accessories that even the Mushroom Kingdom’s most celebrated hero can run away with on his many adventures.

The collaboration features two unique designs created exclusively for the LeSportsac X Nintendo collection. Power-Up Burst is a colorful homage to Mario’s iconic power-up items and classic foes, including Fire Flowers, Super Mushrooms, 1-Up Mushrooms, Super Stars, coins, Goombas and Koopas. The Mario Travel print portrays playful Mushroom Kingdom-inspired travel memorabilia, such as luggage tags, passport stamps and postcards on a bright red background.

Complementing the collection are five additional items, including an authentic pouch shaped like the Game Boy system, a round Piranha Plant pouch, and a Super Mario Bros. cosmetic. All styles will showcase a custom Super Mario coin zipper pull – because it is all about collecting those coins!”

The LeSportsac X Nintendo collection launches in Japan on July 19. Other countries, including the United States, will follow this fall.

IGN recently spoke with Brian Fargo to talk about the PC game Mario Teaches Typing from way back in 1991. You can hear below about how the creator of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing wasn’t pleased with the competition, and how Nintendo ended things after another company came out with a Mario product that didn’t meet the company’s standards.
