Nomura Securities believes NX will be unveiled in June, release between Oct. and Nov.

Nomura Securities has shared some speculation about the timing of NX’s reveal. The concept could be announced between March and May, followed by an actual unveil in June. It may then launch between October and November.
Here’s a notable excerpt from Barrons’ article:
According to analyst Junko Yamamura, Nintendo will make NX available by 2016 year-end’s shopping season. Nomura expects Nintendo to announce the “concept” sometime between March and May, unveil the actual console in June, and launch it between October and November. “We think the NX will start to boost operating profits in 18/3, when it will have been on the market for a full year and will have a line-up of software titles, which carry high operating margins.”
Today’s news comes as Nintendo stock dipped by 5 percent. Nomura Securities feels that NX will cannibalize the existing sales of Wii U and 3DS.
Rumour: Free-to-play amiibo game in the works, Nintendo Software Technology might become a mobile-only developer
Posted on 8 years ago by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in News, Rumors | 33 Comments
Liam Robertson has once again uncovered something quite interesting. In a report published on NintendoLife, he writes that, according to one his sources, a free-to-play amiibo game is currently in the works. The developer for this is Nintendo Software Technology, who recently made Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars and in the past were responsible for games such as Metroid Prime Hunters and Wave Race: Blue Storm.
Apparently the game is planned for a US release in early 2016 – initially it would be free for anyone who owns a compatible amiibo, though this is apparently only a special promotion for the game’s launch. Once that promotion is over, customers will supposedly have to pay to play the game. Nintendo of Europe apparently plans to release the game later on in 2016 for free.
Additionally, Robertson states that, according to his source, there are plans for Nintendo Software Technology to become a mobile-only developer, presumably once development on the free-to-play amiibo game is finished. However, this is apparently only a proposal at the moment and not a final decision.
As always with reports like this, take them with a grain of salt – Liam Robertson has been quite accurate with his reports in the past, however there’s always the possibility of things falling through at the last minute or other internal developments leading to the project not being completed after all.
Nintendo is supposedly removing Super Mario Maker courses with the invisible platforms glitch
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 12 Comments
One of the more publicized glitches in Super Mario Maker involved invisible platforms. This was addressed in an update last month, though levels that took advantage of it remained online.
Reports are now surfacing that these types of courses are now being removed. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed this officially, but that’s the word going around based on various user reports. One bright spot: all stars earned with the deleted levels have remained with their creators.

Rumor: Nintendo of America only allows four 3DS themes for each game
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Rumors | 45 Comments
Circle Entertainment will soon be bringing The Legend of Dark Witch 3DS themes overseas. In Europe, nine will be released in total. But North America will only have access to four.
Why is this the case? Circle says that Nintendo of America only allows games to receive four themes.
The company told one fan on Twitter:
Finally, The Legend of Dark Witch themes is coming to NA/EU. 4 themes for NA, 9 themes for EU.
— CIRCLE Ent. (@CIRCLE_Ent) November 30, 2015
@BlackDarkDracon NOA only allow each title with 4 thems as maximum.
— CIRCLE Ent. (@CIRCLE_Ent) November 30, 2015
I’ll mark this as a rumor as we don’t have an official confirmation from Nintendo, but I’d have to think that Circle Entertainment knows what it’s talking about. This is rather interesting!

Rumor: Mass NX production to begin at the end of Q1 2016, 10-12 million shipments next year
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 22 Comments
Nintendo will enter mass production of the new NX system at the end of Q1 2016, according to a Digitimes report. Even though the company hopes to ship 20 million units in 2016, “the device’s upstream component suppliers expect shipments to only reach around 10-12 million units.” Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) has allegedly been put in charge of manufacturing NX.
NX will apparently undergo mass shipments in the second quarter. Digitimes also says that suppliers such as Foxconn Technology, Macronix, Pixart Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Technology, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech will provide components for the device.

Rumor: Zelda: Twilight Princess HD to support Wiimote and nunchuck controls
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Wii U | 39 Comments
Update (11/26): Bumped to the top. The Wii Remote and nunchuk icon has been removed from the page. So it was either an error, or something was let out earlier than planned.
Original (11/25): It’s absolutely certain that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will work with the Wii U GamePad. It’s possible though that the Wiimote and nunchuck – a setup used in the Wii version of the game – will also be compatible. The Nintendo.se website lists both options on its Twilight Princess HD page.
Despite the listing, we won’t say that this is confirmed yet. After all, there have been occasions in which Nintendo website pages have carried incorrect information. Still, it’s certainly possible, and it’d be quite interesting to see how it’s handled if true.
Rumor: Bravely Second replaces Tomahawk class with Cowboy class in the west
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Rumors | 148 Comments
Rumor has it that Bravely Second’s western version will feature a change to one of the game’s classes. In the original Japanese edition, Square Enix included a Tomahawk class. But if the rumor is accurate, it’s now been replaced with the Cowboy class. The image above apparently gives us a look at the modification (the cowboy image seems to originate from a Spanish store).
Nintendo nor Square Enix has officially confirmed any class changes at this time. We’ll keep an eye out for any future developments about the rumor.

Gold Mario amiibo might not be exclusive anymore
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 12 Comments
The gold Mario amiibo came and went at Walmart back in March. Most figures have received restocks and are fairly easy to find now, but that one is still tough for consumers to get their hands on. The situation might be changing in the near future though.
Walmart recently updated its amiibo terminal, and it no longer shows that gold Mario is an exclusive. This could be a sign of a restock across a wider array of retailers.

Junichi Masuda possibly teases Pokemon-related news in tonight’s Direct
Posted on 9 years ago by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in News, Rumors | 23 Comments
Junichi Masuda, known for his work on the Pokemon series, just made a tweet in which he’s telling people to watch today’s Nintendo Direct.
Obviously, this might not mean anything. There have been times in the past where a creator, such as Masahiro Sakurai or Soraya Saga of Monolith Soft, tweeted about an upcoming Nintendo Direct which led people to speculate that said Direct would feature news from their respective games, but it didn’t end up happening after all. Still, I figured it was worth pointing out.
Assuming today’s Direct will feature something Pokemon-related, what could it be? Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon seems unlikely since the game is already out in Japan and Masuda probably wouldn’t announce news about it like this to his mostly Japanese Twitter audience. News about the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament are definitely a possibility, however Game Freak was barely involved with the development of that game, which was handled by Bandai Namco instead. Pokemon GO is unlikely since Nintendo have said that the Direct will only feature Wii U and 3DS games. What most people would probably want to see is news about a new mainline Pokemon game, such as the rumoured Pokemon Z. It seems like a foregone conclusion that there will be another 3DS Pokemon game set in the Kalos region, but who knows if it will be announced today.
Either way, we will know for sure in about 12 hours when the Direct airs.

Rumor: Retro’s next game is something the company pitched, possibly an original IP
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors | 28 Comments
Retro Studios has worked on three Metroid games and two Donkey Kong Country titles. Could their next project be something entirely original? That’s what the latest speculation is pointing to.
Liam Robertson, who is known for digging up information about cancelled games as well as ones still in production, recently appeared on Gamnesia’s Nintendo podcast with some insight. According to him, Retro Studios tends to have three chances to pitch a project to Nintendo. If the concept isn’t greenlit after this, they’ll be assigned a project that NCL deems more likely to sell well.
Robertson went on to state in the podcast that Retro’s new game is something that they did indeed pitch. Pitches were submitted to Nintendo throughout 2014, one of which was eventually accepted by Nintendo.
Robertson ended with the following about Retro possibly working on an original IP:
“… And you were saying, ‘could it be an original property?’ I think, actually, the time is now for Retro to do an original property. They’ve done two established Nintendo franchises, they’ve done Metroid and Donkey Kong, and I think now is the time to let them take hold of the reins a bit more for themselves and do that. And I think if it is something that they pitched themselves, then that does make it more likely that they pitched something original.”
