Rumors

We’re hearing – as reported in this month’s ONM – that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will offer three secret levels per world. In total, the game would end up featuring 60 levels if true.

ONM also apparently contains a quote from Retro president Michael Kelbaugh who told the magazine, “As for Tropical Freeze, there are a few more things I feel we could have done with the animal buddies”. Some are speculating that Kelbaugh could be hinting at more animal buddies included in the Wii U title.

Minecraft may be making its way to Wii U next year, if a report from Nintendo Enthusiast is to be believed.

The site claims – via a “retailer source” – that Mojang has Wii U dev kits at its disposal and is targeting a release next summer.

Not much is known about how Minecraft will play on Wii U at this time, though the team is apparently “focusing on the GamePad”.

A word of advice: take this rumor with a huge grain of salt for now.

In its NPD response yesterday, Nintendo didn’t say how many Wii U consoles it sold in the US for the month of November. The company only revealed that sales were up 340 percent over October.

So how much did the Wii U sell last month? While not an official confirmation, NintendoWorldReport claims that 230,000 units were sold across the US in November, citing “a reliable industry source.”

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX looks to be getting another character. A Japanese magazine scan apparently reveals that Rosalina will be joining the arcade racer through an upcoming update. It’s unclear if Rosalina would be playable, though we’d certainly hope so.

Nintendo may have plans to bring SNES games to the Virtual Console on 3DS. While there isn’t any sort of concrete proof, accessing Miiverse from the handheld and checking out the Contra III: The Alien Wars community shows the game running on a 3DS XL in the header. No SNES titles are currently available on 3DS (including Contra III), so this is an interesting finding for sure.

A pair of mysterious, still unannounced games developed and published by Nintendo have appeared in the form of classification decisions on the Australian government’s classification website. The first, Steeldiver Subwars, seems to be a sequel to the early, bargain-bin filling 3DS game. A multiplayer-focused, potentially free-to-play Steel Diver game was teased by Shigeru Miyamoto earlier this year and it appears that this is the game that Nintendo and Steel Diver developer Vitei were working on.

Unlike Steel Diver, we know next to nothing about the other Nintendo game classified – NES Remix. No developer aside from Nintendo was noted and it received a “G” rating for “violence with a very mild impact.” The fact it is already classified suggests that we might hear some news about what the heck it actually is fairly soon. I’d follow this up with Nintendo of Australia but I’m not sure how quickly they can reply to a letter.

Could a new Mario & Luigi bundle be on the way to North America. Allegedly so. The silver system above was said to have been spotted at Walmart recently “in the back room”. It will supposedly go on sale on December 2.

I’ve been debating whether or not to post this given how the last time we thought Nintendo was going to announce a specially-designed system, it turned out to be fake. I suppose we’ll compromise by not including this in “The Digest” tab!

Screenshots of three brand new Pokemon have apparently leaked online. The images, showcasing the never-before-scene creatures, were allegedly uncovered after digging around Pokemon X/Y’s data. All three are said to be tied to upcoming events in the 3DS games.

Head past the break for all of the screenshots.

Nintendo may very well be preparing the first specially-designed 2DS system. Kotaku has obtained several images showing what appears to be a Year of Luigi-themed handheld.

Nintendo hasn’t made any announcement, but perhaps the unique 2DS will be out in time for the holidays.

Emily Rogers has returned with another rumor regarding the Wii U’s upcoming update.

A tweet Rogers published a short while ago states that the firmware is going live sometime this week, perhaps as early as Monday.

The tweet reads:

The Wii U’s next update is the second of two major firmware upgrades for the console. Nintendo hasn’t said what will be included, but the system’s speed (loading times and associated elements) should be improved.
