Super Smash Bros. for Wii U “50-Fact Extravaganza” live stream

Today’s Super Smash Bros. for Wii U “50-Fact Extravaganza” (Nintendo Direct, or whatever else you want to call it!) will begin at 6 PM ET / 5 PM PT (about an hour from now). I’ll try to have a live blog going below, but we’ll see how this turns out. If nothing else, expect new posts on the site as major news comes in.
– Over 40 fighters to choose from at the start
– More fighters than the 3DS version to start
– Highest quality visuals ever for Smash Bros.
– Can have 8-player Smashes
– Bigger stages in Wii U version
– The Great Cave Offensive, Jungle Hijinks stages confirmed
– More stages in the Wii U version
– Mario Circuit, Mario Circuit (Brawl), 75m, Wrecking Crew, Delfino Plaza, Miiverse stage, and more
– There will be talk between Viridi and Palutena, Star Fox characters in stages
– Metal Face appears in Gaur Plains on Wii U
– Ridley appears in Pyrosphere, can join a fighter’s side
– If he consumes certain energy, he will become Meta Ridley
– Other elements can be used in this stage
– Coin battles return
– Stamina Smash in Special Smash mode
– Special Smash: change the rules and create your own match the way you like it
– Item frequency can be adjusted (often, rarely, never)
– Toggle certain items to appear like the 3DS version
– My Music in this version; take all the songs from various stages in series and set how frequently they appear
– Can change the basic menu music now
– More songs in the Wii U game (not even close to the 3DS version)
– Almost all 3DS music is in the Wii U version
– More composers
– Collect music by finding in-game CDs
– Can also receive music by completing challenges
– 140 challenges
– Classic Mode: advance based on how well you survive
– Have rival and challengers to deal with in this mode
– Change the difficulty by adjusting the intensity
– Can play Classic with 2 players
– Clear Classic/All-Star, and you’ll see a movie with the fighter you chose
– All-Star: fight newer enemies first
– All-Star also supports two players
– Event Mode is back
– Smash Tour revealed
– This is the board game; spin to advance, use items
– This supports up to 4 players
– Move Miis instead of pieces
– As you advance, collect fighters to use in battle
– If Miis arrive on the same space, fighters face off
– If you defeat someone, you can steal a fighter from their lineup
– Try to power up your fighters overall
– Power ups similar to Smash Run
– Use events/items to your advantage
– Play stock at the end, having many fighters is key
– Target Blast is in this version – second bomb is bigger, heavier, has a more powerful explosion
– 3 types of stages in this game for Target Blast
– Multiplayer in the stadium
– 4 players supported for Target Blast, Home Run Contest, Multi Man Smash
– Home Run also supports 2-player co-op
– Master Core can take the Master Fortress form
– Only appears on higher intensity levels
– Lots of controller options
– More options than any other Nintendo game
– Wii Remote Plus, nunchuck, GamePad, Classic Controller, CC Pro, Wii U Pro Controller, GameCube Controller, 3DS

– Amiibos: level up and become stronger
– They can grow if you feed them an item
– Fight against amiibo or team up with them
– Can have amiibo fight each other
– Amiibo get tougher when visiting someone else’s house
– They may bring you presents
– Wii LAN adapter is compatible with Wii U
– Automatic notifications
– Connect online to see notifications
– When battling online with Anyone, team up in team battle using the same Wii U console
– Will be able to host your own tournaments in the future
– Set conditions yourself here
– Tournaments – up to 64 palyers can fight in a battle for survival
– After the matches have ended, you can watch replays of each one
– GamePad can show info like damage
– Off-TV also supported
– Pause the screen, take a picture, then use the GamePad to decorate your photo
– After an update, you’ll be able to send photos online
– Talk with friends using the microphone
– Chat on the fighter select screen and the results screen
– No voice chat during actual battles
– Stage builder officially revealed
– Draw on the GamePad to build your stage
– Plant traps
– Aim is to give lots of freedom
– Will be able to share photos, replays, Mii fighters, custom stages online
– For Glory battles, For Fun, battling with friends, conquest, spectate, world stats, replays/replay channel, internet options, rules, smash battles, team smash training, trophy shop, albums, sound test, fighter records, stats, milestones, tips and more shared between Wii U/3DS

Nintendo has gone ahead and opened a dedicated page for amiibo on its website. Access it here. There’s a video on the page – posted above – which features a bit of Smash Bros. Wii U footage and how amiibo figures work with the game.
