The latest Max Raid Battle event is up and running in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. It’s highlighted by the appearance of Gigantamax Pikachu – including Shiny Gigantamax Pikachu – which is appearing for the first time.

In the past, players needed to have save data from Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu in order to obtain this Gigantamax form. We assume there will be a similar event for Eevee in the future. Just like Pikachu, you currently need save data from Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee to obtain its Gigantamax form.

Gigantamax Pikachu should be pretty easy to find in Pokemon Sword/Shield. We’re hearing that it’s popping up in all of the dens in the Wild Area.

Towards the end of last week, Children of Morta received a big Setting Sun Inn update. Players can now access a New Game Plus mode, new Family Events and Quests in the Dungeons, and more.

Retro Studios

Retro Studios continues to staff up as the company develops Metroid Prime 4. It has added a number of VFX artists to its arsenal, including Adad Morales, who previously contributed to Battlefield Hardline and the cancelled Star Wars Ragtag project at EA’s now-shuttered Visceral studio. Morales is on board as Retro’s new VFX lead.

Another new hire is Bryan Erck, who worked on Shadow of the Tomb Raider as that game’s lead VFX artist. And after spending twelve years at Gearbox, Nicholas Wilson is now a senior VFX artist at Retro.

Star Wars Episode l: Racer

Star Wars Episode l: Racer won’t be launching on Switch this week as originally planned. It’s been delayed “due to the ongoing work from home requirements across the industry,” Aspyr noted today.

An official statement from the company reads:

Bytten Studio has announced Cassette Beasts, an open-world RPG with a monster combining mechanic. A release window has not been shared at this time.

Here’s an overview of the game:

Kotaro Uchikoshi’s newest game, AI: The Somnium Files, landed on Switch last year. Prior to that title, he worked on the trilogy of Zero Escape titles. Those releases are spread out across the DS and 3DS.

Could the three Zero Escape games find their way to Switch? Uchikoshi at least has interest. In an interview with Gamereactor, Uchikoshi said he hopes it happens.

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors debuted on DS a decade ago. We then saw Virtue’s Last Reward on 3DS in 2012 followed by Zero Time Dilemma in 2016.

Wargroove has updated on Switch to version 2.1.0. It includes gameplay balancing, bug fixes, and more.

Below are the full patch notes:

Civilization VI

Publisher 2K and developer Firaxis have announced the New Frontier Pass for Civilization VI, a season pass that encompasses eight new civilizations, nine new leaders, six new game modes, and more. Players can expect new content to arrive in the form of six DLC packs delivered on a bimonthly basis between May 21, 2020 and March 2021.

Those who purchase the New Frontier Pass will receive the Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici Persona Packs as exclusive bonuses. These offer “a brand-new take on a favorite leader, with a new leader model and background, new gameplay bonuses and an updated agenda that reflects the changes to the leader’s personality.” 2K says Rough Rider Teddy “excels at keeping the peace on his home continent” whereas Magnificence Catherine “can use Luxuries to overwhelm the world with Culture and Tourism.” Both Persona Packs will be available with the second DLC Pack in July.

A new game based on the Doctor Who franchise has been confirmed for Switch. According to Maze Theory, the upcoming project will “create a trilogy of experiences” along with the previously-released VR title Doctor Who: The Edge of Time and a future mobile project.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the Switch game at present. Maze Theory’s announcement says fans can look forward to “new adventures, new game mechanics, intriguing subplots and iconic features such as the TARDIS, terrifying Weeping Angels, imposing Daleks and 0 of course – the chance to collude with the Doctor herself.”

The new Doctor Who game for Switch should launch sometime in 2021.
