Square Enix has released some new story details and screenshots for Dragon Quest XI. There’s a bit of an overlap with the details revealed in Jump magazine last week, like the bios for new characters Veronica and Senya, so we will only be covering the new stuff here, in addition to screenshots from the 3DS version. Thanks to Gematsu for the translation.

As the reincarnation of the legendary “Hero,” the protagonist sets off on a journey through a vast world.

The protagonist, who grew up in the calm village of Ishi, turned 16 years old and took part in a coming-of-age ceremony as a village custom. As the reincarnation of the “Hero” that once saved the world, he understands that he is burdened with a great mission. To learn about the Hero and the Hero’s mission, he sets off on a journey from his hometown.

The destination—the continent’s biggest country, “Delcadar.” Specifically, the king.

Based on his mother’s words that all will be revealed should he go to Delcadar, the protagonist in due course heads for the king. The protagonist informs the king of Delcadar that he is the “hero,” and the king began to tell him what the “hero” means—

And then, the Hero is called the child of the devil!

What the king of Delcadar said was unbelievable. He said that the Hero is the child of the devil. In response to the king’s words, the soldiers surround the protagonist with their swords pointed at him. What is the meaning of all of this? The story of the legendary “Hero” starts off with a bang. What is the fate of the protagonist?

The story of a new “Hero” begins now.

The Switch has now been released around the world, and sales numbers are starting to trickle in. In the UK, the Switch has sold around 80,000 units during its first two days on the market. For comparison’s sake, this is twice as much as the Wii U managed to do (40,000) but not quite as strong as the 3DS’ opening weekend, during which 113,000 units were sold. The Switch was also sold out at many retailers, so it’s likely that sales will remain strong in the following weeks.

Before the Switch version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game was planned to have some touch features on the Wii U GamePad. Ultimately, those ideas were scrapped. The GamePad simply tells players that they can tap on the controller to enable off-TV play.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi recently chatted with IGN about the decision to cut the game’s touch features on Wii U. Once Switch was brought in and tests were done, Nintendo “noticed looking back and forth between the GamePad and the screen actually took a little something away from this type of Zelda game.”

Fujibayashi’s full comments are below.

It’s time for the latest Famitsu‘s most wanted games chart. With Zelda: Breath of the Wild having been released, Splatoon 2 is now the top Switch game.

Head past the break for the full chart. All votes were cast between February 16 and February 22.

When Nintendo revealed Switch last October, Silicon Studio was listed as one of its partners. Now we have a better idea as to how the company is involved.

Today, it was announced that Silicon Studio is pledging to provide technology for Switch. The postscript middleware YEBIS, the all-in-one game engine OROCHI which has over 40 dev tools, and the next-gen game engine Xenko which will be out in April, will all be made compatible with the platform. Worth noting, Silicon Studio already offered middleware and graphic technology for the Switch SDK.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming to Switch. In an official news notice sent out to system users via Nintendo of Europe, the game’s logo is featured alongside several other titles.

You can see Bloodstained’s logo in the second to last column below, towards the middle. The graphic is similar to what was sent out a few days ago following the Nindies Showcase, but Bloodstained’s inclusion is new here.

Bloodstained was originally targeted for Wii U. But since the title won’t be arriving until the first half of 2018, the team probably felt that moving it over to Switch would make the most sense.
