Shigeru Miyamoto Pikmin 4

In a new interview published today, Shigeru Miyamoto commented on the Pikmin series and said he’s wondered why the games haven’t sold more and why people think they’re so difficult.

For Pikmin 4, it sound like Nintendo wanted to make the game as approachable as possible. The company’s Yuji Kando said the team “prioritized ease of play and experimented with making the controls easy enough for those who aren’t used to playing games.” Camera and AI improvements were a focus as well. Miyamoto added that Nintendo wanted to “retain the depth of gameplay that makes Pikmin so interesting, while providing the functional support to address the challenges around controls.”

Pikmin 4 reviews

Pikmin 4 is almost here on Switch, and the first reviews just started to drop. Nintendo lifted the official embargo just moments ago.

This game has been a very long time coming. In September 2015, Shigeru Miyamoto indicated that the project was “very close to completion.” However, it wasn’t until a Nintendo Direct last September that the game was properly announced.

The Witcher 3 update 4.04

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just got a big update on Switch, bringing the game to version 4.04.

The update includes content from version 4.0 that we’ve been waiting for on Nintendo’s console plus a new cross-progresion feature. It also comes with bug fixes, gameplay adjustments, and quality-of-life changes as well as additional content inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher.

Pikmin 4 ROM leak

Pikmin 4 is the latest Nintendo game ROM to have seen an online leak, and it comes just a few days ahead of the official launch.

Unfortunately, Switch titles and leaks tend to go hand in hand. For instance, Fire Emblem Engage also started to circulate online a few days before release. The same thing happened with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and that was arguably worse since it happened more than a week before the game hit store shelves.

EA’s John Shepherd has discussed the Switch version of EA Sports FC 24, and confirmed that it will include all modes. This is in stark contrast to what we saw out of the FIFA titles on Nintendo’s platform in previous years.

Speaking with IGN, Shepherd said the Switch version will be “comparable” to the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. He said:

The latest UK software sales chart for the week ending July 15, 2023 is now available.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom holds on to where it was previously at #2.  Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also still in the top five at #4.

Pikmin origins concept art N64

The original developers behind Pikmin have discussed the game’s origins, including how it was originally being developed for the N64.

Masamichi Abe, who was director at the time, said in a new interview published today that “discussion of this project started during the transition from Super NES to Nintendo 64, so we had a strong aspiration to utilize its ability to display a large number of characters on screen.” Shigefumi Hino, who also was director, added that it was originally “envisioned a game that would control a lot of characters with AI.” The interview includes a number of concept art / images as well, and character designer Junji Morii talked about being inspired by Tim Burton.
