Live A Live Nintendo Virtual Console

According to Live A Live director Takashi Tokita, a big reason the HD-2D remake of Live A Live came to be was due to Nintendo’s interest in having it return on the Wii U Virtual Console for its 20th anniversary in 2015. Apparently the RPG had a number of supporters within the company.

Tokita shared the news during a recent live stream. He indicated that the remake wouldn’t have happened if Square Enix didn’t go out of its way to initially bring back Live A Live for its Virtual Console appearance.

Microids has reconfirmed that Flashback 2 is planned to launch in 2023.

Today’s update may cause some confusion as this was the most recent release window for the game. It was on track for 2022 when it was initially announced in May 2021, but as of June this year, it was already moved to 2023. Microids’ status report today makes it sound like the delay was just determined now, though we know that isn’t the case.

Head past the break for the full chart. All votes were cast between July 28 and August 3.
