A couple of days ago, Nintendo compared The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to the original NES Legend of Zelda on their Japanese website, offering up a few comparisons in the way Hyrule looks in both games; we translated that article here. Today, Nintendo of Europe released essentially the same article in English. It doesn’t really offer any new insights – even the screenshots are still from the Japanese version. Still, if you wanna take a look at it, you can find the article here.

13AM Games has been keeping Runbow updated over the past year with new content, but now the studio has confirmed that DLC is coming to an end. Shantae is the latest addition to the game, and now they’re just about ready to move on.

Now the question is: what’s Runbow’s future? It’s been a success for 13AM Games, so that’s something the team is trying to figure out currently.

In an interview with Hardcore Gamer, the developer mentioned:

“We are still figuring out where we are going to take this IP next. There’s a lot that can be done and we love all different types of games. We’ve had fans requests RPGs and Fighting Games in the Runbow family, but the flip side is that it might be nice to work on something else for a bit. I know it’s not much of a concrete answer, but the truth is we are still figuring it out!”

Whatever 13AM Games ends up doing with Runbow, it’ll likely be a hit. Runbow was one of the more successful indie games on Wii U.

We have significantly decreased the shipping volume for Wii U for the fiscal year ending March 2017 compared to the fiscal year ended March 2016, and we are expecting to sell 800,000 units.

These graphs show the sell-through (sales from retailers to consumers) of Wii U hardware and first party packaged software in our major markets: Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Sales from April 2016 through the second week of October are compared against sales in the same period for the last two years. Hardware sellthrough for this period is down significantly compared to the previous two years, but this is in alignment with our expectations. The sell-through for software is not as high as that for the previous period, which saw the release of major hits such as Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, but due to the increased sell-through overseas of popular titles at a special low price point under the
Nintendo Selects banner, total sales are on par with those for the fiscal year ended March 2015.

Getting down to some of the nitty-gritty:

nintendo-results-q2

And some analysis and comments from Nintendo:

During the six months ended September 30, 2016, we saw strong trends for the global release of Kirby: Planet Robobot. On the hardware side, Nintendo 2DS saw sales growth. The release of the smart device application Pokémon GO led to increased sales of software in the Pokémon series released in the past and drove the Nintendo 3DS family hardware sales growth, particularly outside of Japan. The sales volume for hardware this period was 2.71 million units (19% increase on a year- on-year basis), while software held steady with the previous year at 19.23 million units sold.

For the Wii U console, we have decided to ship 0.8 million units this fiscal year, based on our forecasts of comprehensive demand for Nintendo hardware. Activity has conformed to our expectations from the start of the fiscal year, with hardware sales volume of 0.56 million units (53% decrease on a year-on-year basis). There were no hit titles this period to compare with Splatoon and Super Mario Maker last year, so the software sales were 8.3 million units (33% decrease on a year-on-year basis).

Nintendo is going back to Zelda’s roots with Breath of the Wild. Today, the company issued a new post on its Japanese website to show how its new Switch / Wii U game compares in some aspects to the original.

Nintendo prepared four different comparisons. They’re as follows:

– Old man: found right away in the original game and in Breath of the Wild; gives you a sword in the original Zelda, but nothing in Breath of the Wild; in Breath of the Wild you have to manage weapons yourself such as by stealing them from enemies
– Spectacle Rock: two rocks form the shape of glasses in both games, but it now looks more like a mountain than just a rock in Breath of the Wild
– Raft: used to navigate water in the original Zelda, also in Breath of the Wild by using the Korok Leaf; it’s an important tool in very cold rivers that you can’t swim in
– Skull shape: shape of a skull appears in Zelda’s final dungeon and in a certain enemy hideout in Breath of the Wild; in Breath of the Wild, you can even use the skull shape to your advantage by having the lantern inside one of the skull eyes to fall, cause an explosion, and instantly wipe out the enemies inside

Here are the four comparison shots:
