There’s a pretty good chance of Pilotwings hitting the Wii U Virtual Console this week. Nintendo’s website is listing a June 27 release date – indeed, this Thursday. Pricing is set at $7.99 for the SNES classic.

Nintendo has announced that it will air a Japanese Pikmin 3 Direct this week. The broadcast will air on Wednesday at 7 AM ET / 4 AM PT.

Pikmin fans can expect appearances from Japanese comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto and Shigeru Miyamoto. The two will be playing the Wii U game during this week’s Direct. “It will be a little bit different to a regular Direct,” according to a tweet from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

You’ll be able to watch the proceedings on the official page here. We’ll also have a stream up on the site.

Sonic Lost World will allow players to participate in online multiplayer… the 3DS version, that is. SEGA has confirmed that the Wii U’s multiplayer offerings won’t be online.

According to producer Takashi Iizuka:

“We’ll have different multiplayer modes on both Wii U and 3DS. On the Wii U, there’s booth cooperative and versus multiplayer. In cooperative play, Sonic will be using the Wii U GamePad and someone can be supporting Sonic in co-op with the Wii Remote. In versus mode, one player will be playing on the TV screen and the other player will be racing using the GamePad so you don’t have to have split screen. You both have your own screen and can race each other. The Wii U multiplayer is not on the Internet. It’s basically everyone sitting on the same couch. The 3DS for the first time we’re having 4-player versus racing over Wi-Fi and the Internet.”

It’s kind of odd knowing that Sonic Lost World’s 3DS version will be online, but the Wii U version won’t. SEGA must have its reasons!

Scribblenauts Unmasked has received its rating from the OFLC. The game isn’t due out for awhile though, as its launch isn’t coming until Q3.

Moving Player is taking its act from mobile development to the eShop. The company’s first game for the digital store – coming to the 3DS – is Tangram Style. We’re waiting for details on this one, but it sounds like the game could be in the puzzle genre.

Ubisoft continues to express that the company is a big believer in Wii U. This time, senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key talked up the console’s dual screen experience.

Speaking with IGN, Key said:

“As a company, we like the Wii U. We really believe that the second screen can add a new dimension to gaming. We’re still big supporters of that system. We have just as many games coming out on Wii U this year as we did at launch. So we like the second screen. We think there are opportunities with all these games to extend them – to another person, to another location. We’re taking it very seriously.”

Ubisoft will have – at least this year – quite a bit of content on Wii U. Fans can look forward to Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed IV, and Watch_Dogs.
