The new fighter Dragon Ball FighterZ has received a great deal of attention since its announcement at E3. However, it’s not the first time that Bandai Namco and Arc System Works are partnering on this sort of game. The two companies worked together on Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, which came to 3DS in 2015.

With Dragon Ball FighterZ having been revealed, Game Informer spoke with producer Tomoko Hiroki about Extreme Butoden’s origins. When asked why Bandai Namco was interested in working with Arc System Works in the first place, Hiroki explained:

“Because we’ve had games like Super Butoden (a fighting game that released on the Super Nintendo) we’ve had a lot of fans saying, ‘We believe the roots of Dragon Ball [in games] are actually 2D fighting games.’ And we knew that Arc System Works had this pedigree. That’s where we felt their appeal was, and why we’re deciding to work with them.”

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently not planned for Switch. Hiroki has suggested that it could come to the console with enough fan interest, however.

One fan has repurposed an old Game Boy Advance SP into a Switch dock. Alexander Blake, who had a broken system lying around, realized that the dock’s circuit board is basically the size of Nintendo’s old handheld.

All of this was done by removing what was in the GBA SP. Blake then simply transferred the parts inside of a Switch dock. Finally, a hole was carved above and inside the screen so that the port connecting to the Switch would fit and be protected.

A couple of months ago, we heard that Nintendo could be planning a SNES Mini / SNES Classic Edition. No details were provided at the time, but a release by the end of the year is apparently planned.

Destructoid now has its own report stating that the SNES Mini will be available this year – specifically in time for the holidays. The site spoke with three different GameStop managers who said that the hardware is coming. It’s unclear how much they know and if what was mentioned can be trusted, but one manager said that Nintendo partially wants “foot traffic”.

Nintendo revealed the NES Classic Edition in mid-July last year for a November launch. If the SNES Mini is happening this year, perhaps an announcement could be made next month.

One of the more unexpected Nintendo-related E3 announcements took place during a third-party conference. During its presentation, Bethesda debuted a new trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Switch and unveiled a special Zelda collaboration. The game will let players walk around in Link’s outfit from Breath of the Wild, sword and all.

Geoff Keighley spoke with Bethesda VP of PR / marketing Pete Hines about the collaboration at E3. He said:

“… talked to the Breath of the Wild folks, and they were big Skyrim fans themselves and loved the idea. We really wanted to kind of do an integration with them – their open world thing, our open world thing. It was a lot of fun. They were great with proividing us with all kinds of assets to make it feel like a cool, unique thing for Skyrim.”

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is coming to Switch this holiday. A specific release date has not yet been announced.

Nintendo is present at World Hobby Fair 2017 Summer this weekend, and held tournaments for both Splatoon 2 and ARMS. The Splatoon 2 one might be worth watching in particular just for another look at Salmon Run. You can watch everything in the video below.
