Le Journal des Loisirs Interactifs is reporting that Nintendo has sold more than 450,000 amiibo in France. That number accounts for all figures moved since launch last November. The last number we heard about was in January, when Nintendo said it had sold over 200,000 amiibo in France.

Before Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS hit store shelves, Nintendo said that all characters in the game would be seeing their own amiibo. So it comes as no surprise that retailer GAME has put up tentative listings for both Mewtwo and Lucas. They’re DLC, but still characters in the game, so this was ultimately expected. Maybe Nintendo will have something to say about this at E3 next week.

It’s well known that Nintendo’s amiibo figures have been suffering from shortages almost since launch. That’s unlike other toys-to-life brands, which have been relatively well-stocked.

John Vignocchi, the executive producer of Disney Infinity, was recently asked by Game Informer if the company is doing anything to prepare for the high demand for Star Wars figures in light of the amiibo situation. To this, he said:

There is never an intention to create a shortage of any figures. It is irresponsible and rude to your hardcore fans. They don’t want to create frustration or the hunt. So they will be stocking the shelves well!

We can’t say for certain that Vignocchi was blasting amiibo specifically, but his words do apply to Nintendo’s situation. No one is really happy with the lack of stock and consistent shortages!

Reddit user ZoomBoppo has expended a huge amount of effort into finding the “secrets” within amiibo. After going through the figures’ code in-depth, he was able to determine some potentially interesting findings.

Here’s a quick roundup:

– It’s very likely ZSS and Dr. Mario will work the same as Samus and Mario respectively in games like Mario Kart 8 and Ace Combat, with Dr. Mario being usable in Mario Party 10.
– There may be a Rosalina amiibo without Luma, likely for the Super Mario series.
– Space is reserved for every Pokemon, which could mean anything.
– Mii Fighters are coming.
– It’s likely there are 2 more Mario-series amiibo yet to be announced.
– There are two amiibo series in limbo. They could either be YWW and AC, or two completely unannounced ones.

If you’d like to take a peak at the huge amount of work that went into these findings, you can check out the Reddit page here. Just keep in mind that nothing is confirmed until Nintendo makes announcements.
