Day-one DLC has never been particularly well-received, in part because some publishers end up including the content in question in the final retail product. Consumers feel that if you’re going to do this, they shouldn’t have to fork over extra cash for DLC simply locked away on the disc/cartridge.

At least in the case of Mario Golf: World Tour, the game’s DLC seems to be offered through separate downloads. The game’s packs are fairly large in size which indicates that they weren’t included in the cartridge and aren’t simply “unlocked” when making a purchase.

Check out the European download sizes for Mario Golf: World Tour’s DLC packs below:

Three-Pack Set / Season Pass — 489 blocks
Mushroom Pack — 447 blocks
Free-Trial Course Pack — 138 blocks

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nintendo is offering players the opportunity to nearly double the amount of content they can play in the Mario Golf: World Tour game, which launches May 2 for the portable Nintendo 3DS system. With 10 courses and 126 holes (an amount equivalent to previous games in the franchise), extensive multiplayer modes as well as regional and worldwide tournaments, the main game offers plenty of content for golf fans already. But players who can’t get enough golf and want to expand their experiences can purchase up to a total of 108 new downloadable holes and additional Mushroom Kingdom golfers. The DLC opens up further challenging courses for players to enjoy as they test their skills (broadband Internet access is required).

“We’re letting fans expand their experience with Mario Golf: World Tour,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Some players might be content hitting the links on the numerous courses already included with the game, while others will appreciate the option of being able to add to their fairway fun with new courses and characters.”

Swords & Soldiers is a fine game, but the 3DS version was sadly marred by a number of issues. One of these problems, however, could be addressed in the future.

We recently spoke with Ronimo Games about a number of topics including their thoughts on Swords & Soldiers 3D – a port handled by Circle Entertainment. The studio’s Jasper Koning informed us that Circle is “still working to improve the frame rate”, and even more surprisingly, the company is “looking into bringing the DLC expansion ‘Super Saucy Sausage Fest’ to the 3DS.”

We’ll have more from Ronimo this weekend when our full interview goes live.
