Koei Tecmo’s Koinuma shares more on his Mario Musou idea, Masuda open to Pokemon Musou

Last year, Koei Tecmo executive vice president Hisashi Koinuma mentioned that he’d love to use Mario in a Musou-type game. That was not a joke – Koinuma was being completely serious.
Koinuma elaborated on his original comment while speaking with Polygon, with the site reporting:
He sees Mario as a character that would need to branch out from hand-to-hand combat but could focus on his distinctive moves. Speaking hypothetically, Koinuma suggests Mario could “blast enemies off the screen or knock them unconscious” with his moveset. “I suppose the game would be balanced so the kids could enjoy it as their first action game experience, whereas the adults could enjoy the game with friends and families as a group,” he says.
Pokemon producer Junichi Masuda also weighed in on Musou. He’d be open to seeing the Pokemon franchise cross over with Koei Tecmo’s IP if it wasn’t too violent. During his discussion with Polygon, Masuda suggested that perhaps players could throw out a lot of Pokeballs. It would also need a new form of gameplay so as to not feel too familiar.

Tingle was considered for Hyrule Warriors, possibility of other Nintendo Warriors games, Aonuma on Zelda Wii U and remakes
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 44 Comments
Technobubble published an interview with Zelda director/producer Eiji Aonuma and Koei Tecmo producer Yosuke Hayashi before the launch of Hyrule Warriors last year. While it’s a few months old, the discussion contains several noteworthy comments and we wanted to share those with you.
We hear, for example, that Tingle was considered for Hyrule Warriors as a playable character, but Aonuma advised the team against including him. Aonuma commented on the possibility of other Nintendo franchises seeing crossovers with the Zelda series, noted how he’s interested in applying what Hyrule Warriors did with bosses that move across the map for Zelda Wii U, and touched on Zelda remakes. On Hayashi’s side, he spoke about the possibility of Hyrule Warriors 2 and a few other topics.
Head past the break for several excerpts from the interview.
Here’s an interesting piece of Hyrule Warriors concept art

We’ve posted shots from the Hyrule Warriors art book before, but Destructoid has picked out design that looks particularly interesting. It’s not entirely clear what’s going on, though it seems like Link is cutting off a Bulblin’s arm. The woman in the design was featured in at least one more piece of finished art.
