Mario Kart tracks that never returned after debut

The Mario Kart series is home to many, many different courses, and each new game in the series adds even more to that big number. A ton of old tracks were remade for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, but a select few of them didn’t make the cut. Not just that, but some Mario Kart courses have never reappeared after their initial debut.
Today, we’re listing off all the Mario Kart tracks that never returned to future entries in the series. Do keep in mind that we won’t count Mario Kart Tour here – eventually, its service will end and the tracks in it will presumably become inaccessible. In case that happens, we’re sticking to courses that haven’t appeared in any main series games since their debut.

Here’s a Podcast – Episode 92!
Posted on 10 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Features, Podcast | 12 Comments
ON THIS EPISODE: We talk all about the games we played this week, including more Mario Kart from Austin (this week? Double Dash!), some Mario 3D World and WarioWare from Jack, and not too much from Laura! We also get into a brief discussion about how Nintendo is still a little behind in many regards when it comes to their online gaming feature-set, and what we’d like to see improve.
PLUS: Our mid-segement this week hits upon Nintendo’s fairly bare-bones release calendar for Wii U as well as the token discussion of this week’s Tomodachi Life controversy. We think it’s dumb to not have same-sex marriage in the game, but a few interesting points come up that actually go against the hubbub.
AND: Listener mail has us talking about our favorite game ever (well… not Laura’s!), as well as a bit of Smash Bros and Mario Kart discussion. Plus a few other things. And lots of mis-pronouncing of words and phrases. Oh boy.

Nintendo open to revisiting Mario Kart: Double Dash’s dual racers feature
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in GameCube, General Nintendo, News | 4 Comments
The Mario Kart series has yet to see the return of dual racers since Mario Kart: Double Dash. Yet even though this feature hasn’t been revisited, Nintendo is still open to the idea of featuring two racers per cart.
Mario Kart 8 producer Hideki Konno said during a GDC 2014 roundtable session:
“It wasn’t just a simple case of, ‘Hey, we’re not going to do that again.’ We really think the two racers together in one kart of Double Dash was really unique, and we thought it worked really well.”
“We’ve got that in our pocket, so if we come up with any new, cool ideas that utilize having two players racing together, we will definitely grab that and possibly bring it back out.”
“Having two players racing together, it does have a pretty high cost in terms of processing power, so that is an obstacle. That being said, if we could come up with some ways around that processing cost, we may have two players, maybe even three players, racing together. If we could come up with some cool ideas, we’ll definitely use them.”

Ender’s Game actor played Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Kart: Double Dash on GameCube

Asa Butterfield, the star of Ender’s Game, has quite a bit of experience with Nintendo gaming.
Butterfield told EDGE this month that he played Zelda: Wind Waker and Mario Kart: Double Dash on the GameCube. Wind Waker HD is what’s motivating him to pick up a Wii U, he said.
Butterfield’s comments in full:
My brother and I would play Driver and Metal Gear Solid on PS1, but the first console I had myself was a GameCube. I’d play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Mario Kart: Double Dash for hours. The HD version of Wind Waker is what makes me want to get a Wii U.
