Nintendo Switch Online

Over 32 million members have subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo has confirmed. President Shuntaro Furukawa delivered that news during a financial results briefing today.

Additionally, Furukawa reiterated that the company “will continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, striving to provide services that satisfy consumers.”

Furukawa stated:

Super Mario 3D All-Stars update 1.1.1

More than a year after it’s release, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has gained a new 1.1.1 update.

According to the official patch notes, which are posted below, it comes with a bit of new functionality. The package now supports the new N64 controller made available as part of Nintendo Switch Online, which works with Super Mario 64.

Nintendo Switch Online members in Europe will be able to participate in a Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, it’s been announced.

Those in North America were able to offer the same trial in mid September. Players in Europe will now be able to experience all parts of the game starting on November 10.

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service has been a popular topic concerning Nintendo recently. The way in which the company handled the addition of new features to its online plan was received with a lot of feedback and a good amount of criticism. Initially the biggest problem was pricing, but now after this week’s launch that happened on October 25, some fans are complaining about a number of elements pertaining to the quality of the service, including emulation and online stability.

Twitter user MondoMega has extracted new information about potential plans for Nintendo Switch Online thanks to a recent datamine.

It goes without saying that additional titles are planned for the future. At least on the N64 side of things, Nintendo has already confirmed several heavy hitters, including Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Paper Mario, Pokemon Snap, and Banjo-Kazooie.

GameXplain has shared a new video comparison for N64 games on Switch and the original hardware.

Last night, the first batch of N64 titles were made available on the Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. GameXplain’s video shows off Super Mario 64, Yoshi’s Story, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Dr. Mario 64, and Mario Tennis. Strictly from a visual perspective, titles seem to be brighter on Switch. However, some players have complained about fog on Nintendo’s current console, particular when it comes to Zelda.

If you ever had any doubts about the new N64 controller for Nintendo Switch Online and its features, you’ll be happy to know that rumble functionality has now been officially confirmed.

That news comes directly from Nintendo’s store page for the product. In mentions that compatibles games will support rumble like Star Fox 64. Back in the day you would have needed a Rumble Pak, but that’s obviously not the case here. Rumble will be built directly into the controller.

The expanded service goes live on October 25 (October 26 in Europe). Pricing for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is set at $49.99 / £35.99 per year for individuals. It goes up to $79.99 / £59.99 for the family plan. Already have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription? You’ll be able to switch over to the Expansion Pack plan at any time and receive a pro-rated discount based on the number of days remaining in your current membership.
