Pokemon GO has earned $470 million since launch
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 2 Comments
The latest information about Pokemon GO’s performance comes from mobile intelligence group Newzoo, who published a new report on the game today.
Since launch, Pokemon GO is estimated to have earned $470 million. That was done in just 82 days. Newzoo additionally reveals that Pokemon GO is generating $2 million a day, down from the previous figure of $16 million. Downloads clock in at around 700,000 a day.
As far as who’s playing Pokemon GO, 36 percent of players are between the ages of 16 to 25, and 43 percent are female. The app brought in 20 million new mobile gamers in U.S., U.K., Germany, and France.
Newzoo chief executive officer Peter Warman relayed the following:
“Pokémon Go has opened our eyes in many ways. It has refreshed the top grossing mobile game ranking that has been dominated by a small number of publishers and games for a long time. It has proven beyond a doubt that AR can be applied in ways that appeal to a mass audience. Equally important from a business perspective, it has given [developer] Niantic investor Google enormous insight and data that it can incorporate into its location-based advertising and services strategy. The fact that Pokémon Go has motivated kids and youngsters to spend more time outside is an additional bonus, even if that means they take their screens with them.”

Pokemon GO’s initial launch didn’t exactly go smoothly. The game’s servers were completely overwhelmed to start out, leaving many unable to play.
Google Cloud’s Luke Stone wrote up a blog today and included a graph that gives us another look at just how much Pokemon GO smashed through expectations. An estimated target and worst case scenario were considered, but as you can see, both were shattered.
Stone also shared these interesting facts:

Pokemon GO’s spawning nests now seem to be randomized
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 3 Comments
In the past, when Niantic has changed the spawning nests in Pokemon GO, players could sort of predict what would happen in a way. As Forbes points out:
“Previously, when Niantic changed around spawning nests in Pokémon GO, there was a set list of Pokémon that would change to a different set list of Pokémon. For example, when I started Pokémon GO, I had a Dratini nest by my house, and after the first update, it changed to an Eevee nest, as did all other Dratini nests worldwide. Then after the next update, those Eevee nests, mine included, all changed to Kabuto nests, and so on.”
Niantic has now made another change to Pokemon GO’s spawning nests, but things seem to be different. We’re hearing reports that the system is now completely randomized. Rarity remains the same, but players can’t predict what nests have changed into. Relative rarity is a factor, but other than that, you simply need to go out and look for yourself.

The Pokemon GO Plus device only just arrived last week, but fans are already having a tough time tracking it down. In Japan, we heard that new shipments aren’t expected until early November. The situation is better in the UK, though only slightly.
Nintendo UK mentioned on Twitter recently that its store will have more stock of Pokemon GO Plus in late October. That means we’re probably about a month away before the accessory returns again.

Pokemon GO madness ensues once again, this time in Tokyo; police brought in
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 19 Comments
Pokemon GO insanity has ensued once again. A rare Pokemon (apparently Lapras) was recently found in Tokyo’s Odaiba, resulting in huge crowds. Players have been out and about in full force in hopes of catching the creature.
This has all caused the police to be brought in. Fans have been ignoring traffic lights, overwhelming roads, and causing issues with traffics. Since accidents are possible, it makes sense that the police have had to step in. Actually, NHK reports that Niantic has been contacted so that the Pokemon can be moved to a different, safer location.
Head past the break for some videos of the situation.

Pokemon GO’s 74-day run as top grossing U.S. iPhone app comes to an end
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 13 Comments
Pokemon GO has been on the App Store’s U.S. top grossing chart at the number one spot on iPhone for seventy-four days. However, it has now slipped just a bit, as Supercell’s Clash Royale is now on top. A content update prompted players to up their spending in that game.
Clash Royale holds the record for the longest top grossing U.S. iPhone app at 347 days, followed by Candy Crush Saga at 109 days. However, as Sensor Tower points out, “Pokemon GO managed 42 more consecutive days atop the chart than the game that unseated it, Clash Royale, and more than twice as many days as the 10th game on the chart, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which stayed at the top for 15 days.”

Pokemon CEO on Pokemon GO – China/South Korea interest, success, more features
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Mobile, News | 2 Comments
Pokemon GO is available in a ton of different countries, but Niantic still hopes to expand the game to new regions. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara said China and South Korea are targets. However, issues would need to be addressed with Google Maps, as its use is limited in both territories.
Ishihara also commented on the overall response to Pokemon GO. “I feel like the reaction we saw was 10 times or even 100 times bigger than we expected,” he said.
The Wall Street Journal reports that additional features were planned for Pokemon GO, such as player-to-player battles and character trades. These elements are now being saved for a later date.

While playing Pokemon GO last night, Twitch user Rickeybot was assaulted and robbed in New York’s Central Park. It all took place as the game was being streamed. Luckily, the assailant’s face was shown on camera, which should make it easier for police to take action.
Before heading to the hospital, Rickeybot reported the crime. Those watching the broadcast on Twitch also put in calls to the police.
Rickeybot did post the following on Twitter earlier today:
I got mugged playing Pokémon GO in Central Park. Still talking to police and will go to hospital soon. My jaw is a mess. Thanks all.
