There’s a little 3DS and DS game out there that has been selling on a regular basis in the UK. That would be Frozen: Olaf’s Quest, which hit both platforms last year. It has remained in the UK charts since last December and currently sits at the 31st position in the UK All Formats chart.

Avanquests’ European games director Simon Reynolds told MCV of the game’s success:

“The success of Frozen was a bit of a surprise. We thought it’d do well. We’d done some decent movie licences before, such as Sony’s Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. We thought this one was going to be maybe a little bit bigger as it was Disney, but nowhere near the stratospheric sales that we’ve experienced. Frozen is just the No.1 franchise out there. It’s massive. You can’t get away from it. When we first presented it to people, they were a bit sceptical. They saw that Planes and Wreck-It Ralph didn’t do brilliantly. But Frozen took on a life of its own quite frankly.”

You may also be somewhat surprised to hear that Frozen: Olaf’s Quest is selling more copies on the DS compared to Nintendo’s current-generation portable.

“We thought Frozen would be our last title on DS to be honest. Nintendo hasn’t been manufacturing the console for a few years, but we thought that there is a big user base our there, and there is a second hand, hand-me-down market for the old DS consoles. We launched Olaf’s Quest on DS and it’s still outselling 3DS. And we’ve got Disney’s next big film out in January, Big Hero 6, and we’re bringing that out on 3DS and DS. If you’d said to me 18 months ago you’d be bringing out a DS product in January 2015 I’d have laughed.”

NeoGAF’s “creamsugar” has come through with a new set of sales data leaks from this month’s NPD report.

First, let’s talk about software. Sonic Boom is off to a rough start, as Rise of Lyric only moved 25,000 copies in its first month. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS apparently sold even lower.

On a somewhat brighter note, Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth sold around 48,000 units last month. That’s not too bad considering the game launched during the very last week of November and was up against anticipated titles like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Finally, we have news about the limited edition New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS XL. Consumers snatched up 140,000 of these handhelds in the U.S. last month.

Yesterday, Nintendo shared some sales data for amiibo in the United States. We now have information about how the figures are performing in Japan.

According to Japanese sales tracker Media Create, 104,000 figures have been sold thus far. Link is the most popular amiibo with 16,000 units sold. Since Link works with both Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors, Media Create speculates that consumers were interested in getting special items.

Media Create talks about the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as well. It sold 228,000 copies in its debut week, which is much lower than the 820,000 first week sales of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

This newest Smash Bros. was the first multiplatform entry in the series having launched on both Wii U and 3DS. Because the 3DS version released in September, Media Create believes more users flocked to that version. Smash for Nintendo’s handheld moved 945,000 units in its first week and total sales are at 1.788 million. Combined, the two games on Wii U and 3DS are at two million copies sold.
