Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

It’s possible that the Terry Bogard DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is going to happen quite soon. The official DLC page for the game, which lists the fighters appearing in the Fighters Pass, has recently been updated to describe Terry as “Coming Soon” – the previous description said “November 2019”. Furthermore, a new private video has recently been added to the official Smash Bros. Youtube channel, which might be a trailer or gameplay reveal video for Terry Bogard.

This isn’t official yet, so we’re marking it as a rumor, but all signs point to a release of Terry either this week or next week.

Street Fighter has a decent amount of representation in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Ryu and Ken are both playable while Guile even appears as an Assist Trophy. However, Blanka was one character that was never under consideration to represent the series.

Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, speaking at EGX, indicated that there were never talks with Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai of Blanka being added to the game in any fashion. Ono said the following in response to a fan question:

Nintendo has announced a new Tetris-themed Spirit Board event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When live, five new spirits will appear from Tetris 99.

The event goes live on Friday, October 25. It’ll last for a total of five days, so be on the lookout for those new spirits soon.

One of the main events of the show just wrapped up – the Super Smash Bros Ultimate World Challenge Cup. Four teams of three to four players each took part in this tournament: Team Europe, Team North America, Team Japan and Dream Team. Unsurprisingly, the Dream Team won the tournament, beating Team Japan in the final round. The Dream Team was comprised of three of the top players in the world – Nairo, MkLeo and Mr. R; Team Japan however also had one of the world’s top players in its ranks with Zackray. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai was on-stage to congratulate the winning team.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still has a long life ahead of it. Just went some may have thought that DLC for the game could be coming to an end, it was revealed during last month’s Nintendo Direct that even more characters are on the way.

Thus far, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players have been able to get their hands on Joker, Hero, and Banjo-Kazooie through DLC. We also know that Fatal Fury fighter Terry Bogard has been confirmed. That means the Smash Bros. Fighter Pass has one more character left, and then an unspecified amount of roster additions will follow.

Let’s think about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s future for a second. Are there any characters in particular you’d like to see join? The possibilities are still endless. If you have any thoughts to share, let us know in the comments below.

Hello, my geese and goslings! This week on NEP we’ve got some controversial and complex talking points: Hero being banned then unbanned in official Nintendo France tournaments (and what constitutes an OP character or a ban), Mario Kart Tour and the success and failure of mobile games and how that affects genuine gaming, and the Switch Lite launching on the market. We then get some great listener mail sent to us and we blather on there, too, because complex issues require complex analysis.

If you’re enjoying NEP, please consider giving us a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts, aka new iTunes. It’s incredibly helpful in getting us exposed to new listeners through algorithms, so we would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for listening!
