brain age sudoku

Sudoku wasn’t included in the original Japanese release of Brain Age, but it did find its way into the western edition. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is a big reason why.

Reggie knew that Nintendo would have to think about Brain Age differently in the west. Japan had an older population, and Dr. Kawashima was largely unknown in the west. Reggie would later have a conversation with the late Nintendo global CEO Satoru Iwata about including sudoku for Brain Age in overseas regions.

Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt controversy

Those that picked up an early DS unit may recall the pack-in experience Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt. Instead of going with a complete game, this was more of a demo that offered a look into what the final product would become.

Even though it wasn’t a full title, it turns out there was some controversy when it came to offering it to consumers. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned in his newly-released book that “our developers hated to give away content for free”. Thankfully, the late Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto both signed off on the idea.

Mother 3 producer on why it hasn't seen an English release in the west

Mother 3 originally came out for the Game Boy Advance, but only in Japan. Since then, fans in the west have been clamoring for an English release.

Shinichi Kameoka, the producer of Mother 3, recently shared his own thoughts as to why the game has never been localized. As part of a Q& with the Kit & Krysta Podcast, he said:

Embracer Group has just announced an agreement with Square Enix to acquire several of their western development studios, namely Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal. Furthermore, they would also acquire the rights to a catalogue of over 50 different IPs, including the likes of Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain and Thief.

Co-founder and Group CEO of Embracer Group, Lars Wingefors, mentions in a press release the “fantastic IP, world class creative talent, and track record of excellence” of these studios and their wish to help them “realize their ambitions”. Meanwhile Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix America and Europe, mentions Embracer as “the best-kept secret in gaming” and a “perfect fit for [Square Enix’s] ambitions: make high-quality games, with great people, sustainably, and grow our existing franchises to their best versions ever.” They’ve also disclosed that this transaction will enable “the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud”. Said transaction is being made for $300 million and is expected to go through around July-September 2022.

splatoon still fresh

Splatoon is a fascinating franchise to look at. Coming from a company that has the biggest names in the industry, it’s impressive how fast the series managed to get the same success of other IPs with three games already in the span of eight years.

In today’s video, I wanted to reflect in the aging process of the franchise, looking at how new and fresh the game looked on Wii U and how the series has evolved since that. If you’re interested in that topic, feel free to check out the video down below. At the very end here’s also the announcement for the winner of our last giveaway.

reggie fils aime nintendo job

Reggie Fils-Aime spent about 15 years at Nintendo, including more than a decade as president of Nintendo of America. His time with the company was marked by lots of success, memories, and plenty of memes. Interestingly though, Reggie recently revealed that all of his trusted advisors told him not to take the job.

Reggie shared that nugget of information during a talk at SXSW 2022. When asked why his advisors felt that way, he stated:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is three months away, so we’re definitely feeling the hype. Monolith Soft has said that this new game can be played if you haven’t gone through the first two, but those that really want the most out of it will want to see what the previous outings have to offer – especially from a story perspective.

Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 are both special in their own right, but some fans have a clear preference for one over the other. With that in mind, we want to hear from you about which one you like more (we haven’t forgotten about Xenoblade Chronicles X, but obviously 1 and 2 are more similar to each other). How do you feel they compare from the perspective of the gameplay, world, story, characters, and music? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

star wars rogue squadron switch ports

Aspyr has indicated that it’s open to ports of the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games on the latest platforms, and Factor 5 co-founder Julian Eggebrecht hopes the company will go out by including the unreleased Wii title Rogue Leaders: Rogue Squadron.

Much has been made of an innocent tweet reply from Aspyr that the company put out within the past week or so. When one fan asked about the possibility of Rogue Squadron ports, the company said:

min min amiibo no nfc blocker scannable

Eight years after the amiibo line kicked off, Nintendo has started to make a change with the packaging, which lets the figures be scanned in the box.

Up until now, previous figures had an NFC blocker included. That meant you’d have to take the amiibo out of the packaging if you wanted to actually use it. For some people that was never a big deal, but there are collectors out there that like keeping the figure in its box.

Super Mario Bros animated movie details leaked

The Super Mario Bros. animated movie was announced years ago, yet there’s very little that we actually know. The main cast had been previous confirmed, but in terms of what to actually expect, things have been quiet.

Before that recent delay took place, rumored details about the film supposedly leaked online. The information is a bit dubious, but GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who has a history with leaking news pertaining to games, seems to think that it could be legitimate and may have come about from audience testing.
